The last time I sat down at my bench I have noticed that My Hornady FL die is really scratching the necks on my .25-06 brass. I am curious as to the cause of this as I have been somewhat religious about tumbling all brass in corncob before I resize it. I am also looking for a reasonable solution to smooth whatever rough spot there seems to be. I will replace the die if need be but I would like to avoid that. When I took the decap rod and collet out I could not find any roughness in the neck area either visually or by using a dental pick. I am back to the RCBS case lube that you roll on. The Hornady One Shot lube wouldn't work consistently and would at times require quite harsh pressure to resize. If anyone can pass on some ideas i would be happy to try them.

Last week I fixed a 25-20 FL die that scratched cases bad. I took a fine Cratex abrasive rod, mounted it on a small mandrel and chucked it in my Dremel. A couple of passes in the die and no more scratched on the cases and did no harm. I never could see anything that could cause the scratches and cleaned it througly, but it still scratched. It scratches no more...

What is Cratex and where can I find it? I had also thought of trying JB paste to sort of lap it the roughness. Thanks for the reply.

My method is to take 0000 steel wool, and wrap it around a worn bore brush. Chuck it into a cordless drill, and polish away. To finish, I add some Flitz metal polish. Smooooooooth.

The best part is how little lube you have to use after you polish..... HTH, Dutch.

Dog-duster, Cratex is a rubberized abrasive which comes in a variety of shapes and grits. The dental & jewelry professions are among its users. To find out more, try this link: http://www.cratex.com/ ...Maven

Send it back to Hornaday. They'll polish it out for you and probably do for free.

I have to agree with Bob338. Send it back to Hornady along with a case or two to show the damage that's being done. They'll correct it for you. I know there are abrasives you can use on the inside of your dies, but why risk it? Let the experts that made the product correct it.
Best wishes.
