Considering the success of my recent heavy bullet 30.06 thread I've gotten a bit over excited and bought a lot of reloder 17. Will it work for the 168gr bullets? any loads gents?

I've seen the test with 180gr bullets. Alliant has load of 54.5gr/R-17 as max with 180gr bullet and Hornady new manual as a max load of 52.1gr/R-17 with 180gr bullet. I've had pretty good luck with R-17 in some calibers others not so good. 57gr/R-17 is pretty close to max Hodgdon manual load of 57.5/H-4350 with 180gr bullet @ 2798fps 49,300cup. I never reading the posting on the pressure article other than what you posted so don't have a clue how the pressure testing was done and barrels used. I'm surprise you haven't run any test with 168gr bullets and have to ask for loads. Hornady new manual has loads for their 168gr bullet start 48.1gr max 54.1gr/R-17. VFW

Hi Tom, I was just the messenger, you appear to have me confused with M98, aka Daniel, who was the chap kind enough to get the pressure testing done and make his results available for our benefit here. He has stated that he has no use for bullets lighter than 180 grains in the 06 so I'm shit out of luck as far as the very cool pressure data he has been providing goes! I have a stock of these and would like to use them up but will work up a load in the usual way. I can't get the speed I would like from them with H4350 and in fact had a bit of a scary experience with them as detailed here.
