I've been looking for a set of 280 Rem Ackley Improved dies and while there are some sets avaible I was wondering if its possible to use a chamber reamer to ream the dies as well as the chamber? Anyone had any experience with this sort of work? All feedback/information will be welcome. Smiler

You need a reamer that would make a sizer die that is just a tad smaller then the chamber so your can resize your cases back to an easy fit. A chamber reamer may give your a seater die. Did you try CH4D for dies?

If your chambering reamer is on spec and you buy quality 280 AI cases & dies there would no reason to ream the neck. If you're going to use thick neck 30-06s case (military) as a basis then:
here is the die from RCBS (You ALSO need the reamer)

or many case trimmers have reaming cutters available. Here's one for a Forster: (you don't need a "power trimmer" either, the old hand one woks just fine.)

"ream after firing and before trimming !!!"

I'd just buy the right brass and Redding match dies and be done with it

Actually, I'd buy a minty early 700 in 7mm remmag as everything would cost less and do more than the 280 AI.

You might want to read his original post before you answer Larry. He is talking about reaming the standard dies to AI.
