.45 Colt powders
Have been loading 45 colt using 231 & unique with good results, but I'm looking for other powders. Using mostly LRN in 255 & 200gr. I haven't seen any data on WST, has anyone tried it?

Bluedot is an often overlooked powder that has always performed well for me in both the .44 mag and .45 colt with mid range loads. Actualy, it is quite good in the .44-40 too. My favorite for that round.

Glen,

I have a EMF M92 lever gun in .45 Colt and developed the following loads for the rifle:

Unique-9.8 gr/260 gr semi-jacketed HP

2400- 15.2 gr/250 gr hard cast

AA#9- 15.0 gr/300 gr Hornady XTP

Blue Dot- 14.6 gr/300gr Hornady XTP

777 (black powder substitute)- 25gr/260 gr SJHP

The primary problem to overcome in the .45 Colt is powder selection. If the selected powder does not fill a sufficient portion of case volume, you will get poor groups and inconsistent results. The best powders in my group for filling the case were Blue Dot and 777. The Blue Dot was my most accurate load, with holes touching at 25 yds. The AA#9 was the second favorite, but did better in accuracy at 50 yds than the Blue Dot and these loads hit harder. The 777 is a blast to shoot. It produces the smoke puffs with each shot that reminds me of the old western movies. The 2400 and unique make better choices for handguns than long guns, but keep in mind that my loads with these powders were for my rifle. Enjoy.

I just started working with WST in my 45 Colt Blackhawk.

So far I have tried 6gr. with a 200 gr. Laser-cast bullet for 750 fps.

I was very impressed with the cleaness of the burn compared with Unique and great accuracy, too.

I think WST would be worth a try. I am going to try and work up to 750-800fps with the RCBS-270 SAA bullet and call it good. Rojelio

For heavy loads, H110.

I'm loading for a Blackhawk and SBH Hunter, both 7.5" barrels in .45 colt. But I'm only looking for accuracy, not pushing the limits. I'll probably give the Blue Dot and WST a try, but has anyone had any luck with the VV N320 or 340?

I like H110 and 250 gr XTP.
I shoot with a guy who likes Unique and 300 gr cast.

Lil'gun by Hogdgon hands down. I've tried H110, 296, and Blue Dor and Lil'gun will give you the highest velocities by a loooong shot. Works pretty damn well in my new 17" Contender carbine barrel. Hope to score this year with it.
