My decapping rod did brake off after only 50 decappings. I ask one of my frieds to set the new one up as I thought take I did not set it up in his press but after 75 decappings the new one was history. We checked everything is there someting else we can check. My friend load about 3000 rounds in a season. The shop where I bought it tell me that the it was not set up right and there is something wrong with my press. I load for 300 winnie and 308 win in the same press and still use my same dies for the 300 for 3 years without any problems.

Just a wild shot in the dark... Does the brass you are reloading happen to be berdan primed ? Or maybe at least some of it ? ( if you look in it before decapping, are there two holes at the bottom ? ) I have seen 308 brass like this, and it is rough on the decapper. Travis F.

It took quite a while but I broke a hornady pin on some weatherby brass where they used the "factory sealer" on the primers. If I remember right I stole a pin out of a set of redding dies. Most other dies use one size bigger pins. You might want to make sure the expander stem is not bent--pull it out and roll it accross the table and look for wobble. I sometimes wonder why they have to make those pins so darn long--it has to put pretty good leverage on them.

I have their dies in 416 Taylor and 220 Swift. The swift had 3 warrenty replacement decappers before I gave up and decap them separate. The Taylor decaping pin lasted up till last week. If it weren't for the fact that they load very good ammo I would replace them but the dies themselves are great. Check that the hole in the shell holder is lining up with the primmer, the spent primer may be jamming on the edge of the hole causing excessive force.

Sounds like it's time to get a decapping die.
