1894 I shot a big doe with a 160 grain Speer Mag Tip from my 7mm Rem Mag. Perfect lung shot at 80 yards. She ran about 40 yards. Awesome wound channel with complete penetration. I believe I'll load some in 30 caliber in the future.

I've had a suspicion that Mag Tips might be good bullets on game. What was the muzzle velocity of your load?

I wish Speer made a 165 grain / .308 Mag Tip. They make 150 & 180. May have to give them a shot in my .308.

A guy I worked with and his group used to go to Ontario every spring bear hunting. He used a Sako Forester in 308 and claimed the mag tip was the best thing since pockets on pants, very accurate and deadly on black bear. I`ve never tried them on game as I usually get good performance with other bullets and there not easy to find or availible in the calibers I use in my area. I might just have to try them.

BigIron I don't know the velocity at the moment but I just got a chrono. I'll let you know when I find out.

Sniper,

Thankyou for remembering. I think I'll try some when I finish the Hornady RNs.
