Has anyone tried to permanenty mount a supressor on a .22 Brno model 2. A gunsmith told me that if you shorten the barrel by the same ammount as the supressor is long & then permanently mount the silencer i would get better velocities & accuracy out of the .22 . The only reason I am considering this , is that the 22 is bulky to carry arround when field hunting . I get supperb accuracy with the rifle as it is but would like to shave of some of the length. Any suggestions would help With Hunting regards

Well, I have an AWCS Archangel III supressor that I move between a Ruger MKII pistol with a 5.5" bull bbl. and a Ruger 10/22. The 10/22 has an Adams and Bennet .920" blued barrel that was shortened to legal minimum (16". It's in a Hogue overmold stock and has had a trigger job. While this barrel stock setup isn't known for great accuracy, I can get 10 shots of eley tenex in one nice dime sized blob at 50 yards. Rem 40gr. subsonics open up a bit, but not too much. Anyway, I'm not sure I'd mess with a Kimber or Anschutz, but I'm with you on the bbl. being akward with the can on if you don't trim it. I think the main thing is good gunsmithing and a good supressor. Lynn McWilliams at AWCS is an absoloute perfectionist and he did all the work on my guns. He knows his supressors, and it makes sense to let him trim, thread and fit. I'm thinking about sending him my Rem 541T next... Won't necessarily help you half way around the world, but...

22lr right? I have an Anschutz XIV carbine with 14" barrel and 6" sako threaded moderator. With subsonic rounds the rifle is so quiet the firing pin is the only noise you hear apart from the bullet hitting the rabbit which is about 5 times louder! In the UK buying a 22lr having it shortened and threaded for a moderator is so normal it's not even a topic. 22lr doesn't have to be long and with a good threading job a detachable moderator is at least as accurate as unmoderated if not more so. BRNOs are very popular for this but as you say do need shortening to stay manageable.

Don't you need a class III license for a supressor?
