I am looking for data for .223 used in an ar-15. I got a bunch of 2520 on the cheap and I want to use 50gr. vmax bullets. They are moly coated if that makes a difference. Can someone give me min and max loads along with expected velocities? Thanx in advance, Mark

.223 Remington (1 in 7 or 9 twist) Barrel: 24", Twist: 1-7" or 1-9" Primer: FED 205 Bullet Dia.: .224" 2460 69 NOS HPBT 21.3 2,579 23.7 2,991 51,800 2.250 2460 75 HDY HPBT 21.1 2,457 23.5 2,792 50,400 2.255 2460 80 SIE HPBT 20.7 2,404 23.0 2,732 50,200 2.450 2495 69 SIE HPBT 21.6 2,556 24.0 2,905 50,500 2.250 2495 80 NOS HPBT 20.4 2,404 22.6 2,732 52,300 2.450 2520 69 SIE HPBT 23.3 2,625 25.9 2,983 48,900 2.250 2520 75 HDY HPBT 22.0 2,522 24.5 2,866 52,500 2.255 2520 80 SIE HPBT 21.6 2,411 24.0 2,740 50,400 2.450 This is the only info I could find in .223 using 2520. I would think that 2230 would be better since it's close to H335 and H322 in performance, but just a little slower. 2520 just seems a little too slow of a powder for the .223, IMO.

With 27.5 gr. of 2520 compressed ( as high as I've gone ) the 52 gr. berger is pushed at 3442fps. One published compressed load of 28.5gr 2520 shows a velocity of3424 fps. Difference in rifles perhaps. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

thanx guys. I loaded a bunch of the 50 gr. Vmax w/ 25 grs. and 55 gr sierra game kings with the same 25 grs. we'll see how it works this weekend. From the sound of it, it looks like I should have tried to push them a little faster. Thanx again, Mark
