I recently picked up a box of these to try in my Win Mod 70 with a 26 inch barrel, and could use some starting load data. I have several powders to try, IMR4350, IMR4831, IMR7828, H1000,H4831,H4350,RL22 and RL25. Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS kARRY

Of those powders I would try the 7828, the R22 and the IMR 4350.

I shoot the 140 TX in my 7 Mashburn Super using 7828 and it works great.

There are those that would argue that H1000 is THE powder for 7mag.

I'd try Re22, H1000, and the 7828 first with that bullet wt.

However, I'm shooting a 150 btip over IMR4831 (about 63.0 if I recall) with outstanding accuracy. Re25 is a great 7mag powder too, but I think for the heavier bullets.

HC and Doc,

What charges have you been succesful w/ while using H1000 and 140s?

I've got H1000 on hand and I've never even loaded it in 7 RM. I've always had such good luck w/ H4831 and R22 that I just never ran any 1000 through any of the 7RMs I load for. Sounds like another fun thing to tinker w/ after the season is over.

I've used the 1000 in 300 WM as well as 25-06 and 7 WEA and it seems to be somewhere near R25. You found the same?

Thanks,

Reloader

Hey Reloader, Don't take any offense at this - I just don't quote actual charges, because they can be so misleading.

Hodgdon recommends 73.0gr <-> 76.0gr, but my current 7mmRemMag reaches a SAFE MAX close to the Low end. A previous 7mmRemMag I had, reached a SAFE MAX above the High end. So any actual Load I mention might or might not be SAFE in someone elses rifle.

Good old H870 workd well with the heavier bullets, but always left a very tenacious Residue. Had to scrub it out with a paste recommended by Mr. Bruce Hodgdon composed of your favorite Bore Cleaner and Bon Ami non-abrasive household cleanser. It was the only thing I EVER found that would cut that Residue.

I tried the Reloader Powders and for whatever the reason found RL-19, 22 and 25 were all a bit too erratic in Pressure for me. (Same with RL-15 in my 308Wins.) Seems like most folks have excellent luck with them though.

IMR-4831 worked fairly well, but leaves a bit more Powder Space than I desire. Never could get IMR-7828 to shoot "acceptable groups" for me, but other folks love it.

H4831 worked fairly well, but when I used it (and IMR-4831) the Bullets weren't built as strong and as accurate as they are today. So, they might do just fine for someone.

That brings me back to H1000. I might be on my 3rd 8# jug of it, but it might be more. Once it came out and was supposed to have a burning rate between H4831 and H870, it looked just like what I was looking for. And so far it has done well in my rifles. But, you never know how it will do in your rifle until you try it.

Best of luck with it.
