HAHAHAHAHA!
HOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO!
HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHE!

You think it is expensive now, wait until you start paying around $3 each for brass and $2 each for bullets. And start going through 1-pound cans of powder at around 60 loads per pound!

Now Steve,
Try Cabela's for brass around $1.50 each, and they will last forever.

Hornady bullets are about 4 for a dollar, for plinking.

And you'll get closer to 70 shots per pound of powder.

the best i've EVER seen was 90 bucks for 20... it's usually 6 bucks around, if bought...

you'll be paying two or less (3 puts you into 500 nitro, 577, 500 jeffery) exotics....

2 bucks a bullets? I think woodleigh softs are only a buck, and barnes x is only 75

so, let's say you want the price for 20
34 powder
50 hornady bullet
2 primer
86 to reload... BUT, you'll spend, for say 100 first pass
34 bucks in powder
175 in brass
50 in hornady 400 gr sp
2 bucks in primers
261 bucks for your first 100...

which is 52 bucks a 20... which is 40% of the cost of buying that much factory...

then it's 86/100 then on out

Ha! Eat yer hearts out.

Brass..... 40 rounds of Norma empty .416 Rigby brass, bought with the rifle seven years ago, which has fired EIGHT HUNDRED-PLUS rounds since then, and still perfectly good. Just bought another 20 cases to allow more shooting at a sitting.

My personally-cast 365-grain RCBS bullets cost only TWO CENTS EACH (for the gaschecks, alloy is free) and with an additional cost for powder from ten cents (2000fps) to 20 cents per round (max loads, 2600 fps or more), my TOTAL cost for .416 Rigby of any power level is from about $2.60 to $5.00 PER TWENTY ROUNDS, plus I get the entertainment of making the bullets and loading the ammunition.

Folks who own big rifles and don't use cast bullets are seriously missing the boat. The additional practice allowed by ammo that is either cheaper, or more pleasant to shoot, or both, makes us into better shots. Also, the cast rounds impose practically ZERO wear on the rifle. Note that bullets made specifically for our own rifles will work better than commercially-cast bullets, as we can select hardness, diameter, lube, bullet design, etc etc.

Funny you should mention it....yep, I AM a cast-bullet gonzo.

Just don't buy everything at one time, that way you don't know how much your spending.......works for me.

Steve's breakdown of component costs just makes me think that primers are a real bargain. They're not as simple as first meets the eye.

Steve,
Not trying to argue.

We are comparing first case vs reloading those cases. In Business, the cases aren't a varible cost, and I don't count them that way, either.

swap to a 25 cent hornady bullet, for practice, as I bought 500 blems, and then shoot barnes x for serious, and you'll see that
POWDER 24 to 34 cents
BULLET 25 to 84
PRIMER 1 to 2 cents
50 cents to $1.20 pre reload....
