They were made by the factories on short actions. This limits the col to 2.8" (some short actions will allow a slightly longer oal than this). If you build on an intermediate action you can stretch the col out and this cartridge really becomes something, about halfway between the 270 winchester and the 264 Win Mag. However, I do believe that Remington has stopped producing brass and ammo. You can still make the cases from other belted mags, it's just more of a hassle. Personally, I like the cartridge, and in it's original form (carbine with 270 Win performance) it worked very well. - Dan

I've been shooting a 6.5 Rem Mag for about 20 yrs. now in a 600 Remington, and even though I own 11 other rifles, when its time to go deer hunting, thats the one I grab. I recently bought a 700 Remington in this caliber, (supposedly only 1500 were made in 1969)and this is the only rifle I figure has a chance of finding a place in my heart along with the 600 Rem. I read articles spouting how the .260 Remington may very well be the best deer cartridge available, well as far as 6.5's go, whatever the .260 can do the 6.5 Rem Mag can do better. As for brass, it is readily availabe from Graf and Sons. Buy plenty. There are many nay sayers out there talking smack about a great round that 99% have never even seen let alone experienced shooting. People spreading negatives about our sport can only hurt it in the long run. Get yourself that 6.5 and ENJOY!!!
