What isa good powder to use here. I used 100 grains on 4350, shot well but the velocity was on 3600 fps and there was a large muzzle flash. Does this mean I need a faster burning powder? What about RL22?

Thanks

Careful; the 6.5mm 95 grain vmax bullet fragments after 3750fps. If you get it that high and you should be able to, you might wonder where all the bullets went. Let us know if this happens.

Reloader 22 is actually a tad slower than IMR 4350 conventionally {which I believe is slighty slower than Hodgdon's versions}. Muzzleblast...yeah, I'd think you'd be getting a bit of that! <laughs> I'm assuming you're utilizing a 26" barrel..? You know, 100grs is slightly anemic for such a light bullet in such a big case--thus you're probably getting poor effeciency and hence the great balls o`fire at the end of the pipe. Mostly it's the light bullet that makes things rather interesting... Hum, well, IMR 4350 isn't a particularly bad choice. You should get a bit better *performance* out of one of the reloader powders between RL 19 and RL22, as they are double-based. I've heard a lot of people tell me that Accurate's 8700 is very, very accurate in large cases with light bullets for some reason. It's damned slow burning, but worth asking around on, I suppose. There's always H870, as well. With those last two, however, muzzleblast will be no small matter, but if you go faster, you're going to have a difficult time filling the case much before pressures go up and away. If you're getting good results with IMR 4350, keep working with it. You could try a faster powder, such as 4320 or even 4064, but loading data will be scarce...you'll have to be...clever. [Embarrassed] ) <or crazy, like me> You might also check out the high energy powders from Vihtavuori <the N540 and 560 series, I think.> You need a 32" barrel. <tips his hat> [Embarrassed] ) One last thing would be trying a bullet in the...125gr class. That might help immensely... I think Berger makes a 125gr job, but I'm not sure. Hope this helps a tad!

I am very new to reloading. So I dont know a whole lot about powders. The loads that I did make were out of the nosler 5 book. The 4350 loads shot great out of my sendero. I loaded 150 gr balistic tips and 110 gr vmax bullets. The 150's for hunting and the 110's for no real purpose other than trying to break 4000fps with a lightweight bullet. The 150's with 89 gr of 4350 were dead on and going through the same hole at 100 yds. The 110's did the same just about an inch higher. The reason I mention the muzzle blast is because I was assuming that the bullet was leaving the barrell before all of the powder had burned and thus needed a faster powder, makes sense to me but could be wrong. I also mentioned the RL22 because it was the "most accurate" powder for the 125 gr bullett in the nosler book. I was just looking for 4000 fps havoc
