Has anyone loaded up a 260rem with Hornady 160grRN?

If so, how was your results on paper?

Any results hunting with the 160RN?

What was/is your starting load for the above?

Thanks in advance.

Bill:

Penetration with a 160 grain 6.5 mm Round Nose, is fantastic in any caliber. Trajectory makes it a 250 yd load in a 260, but that is about it for any round nose in any caliber.

For powders, try H 380, H 414/W760,. Accuracy is excellent and velocity will impress you.

If using a mag primer, watch your powder volume.
It did make a difference in mine. I use Fed 210s for primers in that load.

Seat to cannelure. If rifle is a Remington, they have a tight chamber, so make a dummy round first to see if the throat is long enough for the bullet before loading some.

Good luck.

Haven't tried it yet, but I've been meaning to. I'd probably try something like 4350, imr4831, or RL19 to keep the powder charges down, to help keep powder compression down. 2550 fps might be doable in a 22" barrel??? [Confused] Seems to me that it would be a good 200 yard hunting load.

I don't have the exact charge with me (maybe 41 grains?), but I used IMR4350 behind the 160-grain Hornady RN for around 2350 fps out of a 20" barrel and it shot a bit over MOA. I wasn't sure the long bullet would stabilize in the Remington Model Seven's 1:9 twist, but after reading an article in which the author was successful in doing it I tried it and it worked fine. Punched through a shoulder joint of a whitetail doe at 20 yards and kept on going straight through the vitals and out through a rib, dropping the doe within 25 yards.
