I just reasently bought me some 250 grs Barnes X bullets witch I'm planning to use for moose and seal but I don't know what kind of load I should use. I have plenty of Vihtavuori powders to work with

I have always had great luck with the 250gr x backed by RL19 or IMR 4831 ,it usually runs around 2700-2750fps

For the 250gr "X" bullet Barnes manual shows: * VIT N160 sarting at 63.5grs/ max of 68.5grs. * Re 19 min 66grs/Max 71grs. * IMR 4831 min 63grs/max 68grs. Work up carefully. They also recommend that the bullet be seated 50 thousands off the lands to start.

I made few rounds with 74,2gr of Vihtavuori N560 and I got velocities from 2670 to 2756fps and accuracy was about 2 inches from 100 meters. Velocities seems to be altering a lot with N550 and N560 powders. I think that I will try N160 tomorrow and hopefully get some better results.

I can't say if it will make any difference in your rifle but you may get better accuracy with standard primers rather than magnum primers. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

I've used this load for my Win Model 70 since 1970: 74.0 gr. H4831, 9 1/2M primers, Sierra 250 BT -> 2749 fps The powder was around a dollar a pound then. I finally magnaported the barrel, and it is a kinder, gentler freight train now. It has always shot 3/4 groups at 100 yds, some of which I am sure is me. Some years back, I stuck a Fajan laminated stock on it. The original had a knot in it that warped it against the barrel in humid conditions. I was always amused by the carelessness of the wood and the amazing accuracy from this unremarkable gun. In 1970, it was the only stock gun you could get a 338 in.
