Since H110 and W296 are the same powder... I think 10-11 gr. is generally considered about max with these weight bullets. However, I don't know what specific bullet you're using so you're on your own.

I'm loading L'ilGun for the Hornet and although I'm currently using the 35 gr. VMAX I'll be switching to the 40 gr. VMAX.

When you have burnt all your W296, try Lil,gun.
I have loaded hornets in just about every powder & bullet etc. Lil'gun is super clean, does not have the heat of W296 and presures are considerbly lower. I load the 40 V-Max in a Micro Medallion and it is 1 hole at a 100 yds.

296/H-110 is possibly the worst choice for a Hornet. Try LilGun or AA-1680 for MUCH better results.

I've been shooting (K) Hornets since 1960 and haven't had one yet that liked H-110 or 4227.

Anyone of you 22Hornet fans want to reccomend a "Best value for the buck" bolt rifle in 22 Hornet?

I actually want a double rifle in 22 Hornet, but that will have to wait a bit.

Just starting to look so any and all advise will be greatly appreciated.

Don't know about bolts, but I have owned a bunch of Hornet's, mostly single shots, and I'll have to say that the only one I own now is the best Hornet I have ever owned or seen. It's a Browning Low Wall, which has been discontinued but can be found used.

As far as the powder question, LilGun absolutely revolutionized two cartridges in my opinion, the Hornet and the .32 H&R Magnum. The Hornet achieves max velocities at incredibly low pressures and the .32 H&R can be raised to a whole different performance plateau.

Is Lil' Gun magic in Hornets or what? My old Hornet loves the stuff.

best bang for the buck in a Hornet bolt rifle just might be one of the old Savage/Stevens models.... model 340? or something like that. They haven't been made for quite some time, but you can still find them floating around gun shows.. and I think they are usually about 250 dollars or so... Other than that, it is probably the CZ rifles for about 350 or so...

Hornetguy, if you can find those rifles at those prices you need to start bringing them here to NC for resale. My CZ was $489 plus tax and I haven't seen a modle 340 for under $350 in a very long while.

Guys lil gun is not available here in OZ. and from reports there is no intention to export it here either. I have been given about 800grains of W296 so im not loosing much in trying it just the cost of a few projectiles and primers. If it works all well and good if not i shrug my shoulders and keep using the Australian made ADI powder 2205.

I was just wondering more about maximum loads so i dont overload it...from what i gather its around 12Grs or something but havent been able to get a figure.
