Looking for a good hog load for my Taurus, which definitely prefers .430 dia. bullets. It loves XTPs, but I'm concerned about their performance at that cartridge's velocity. At 950-1000 fps I'm thinking a lead SWC might work better. This is for a buddy who will borrow my revolver as a back-up for quick shots since he will be using a single-shot rifle. Might the XTP work OK, or I have bunches of Bull-X 240 gr. SWC. Am also thinking of picking up some Cast Performance in 255gr, but am thinking that is better suited for a .44 Mag. Any thoughts and experiences would be appreciated.

Elmer Keith solved this problem almost 100 years ago. Use a hard-cast Lyman 429421 SWC and 16 to 18 grains of 2400.

Thanks, all. Going to load up the 240gr. Bull-X which is a hard-cast and should be good enough for a finishing shot. My side-arm when boar hunting is a Bisley 45 LC, but my buddy can't handle that well. He is quite familiar with my .44 Special and shoots it well. Gonna dump 15gr. of 2400 under those Bull-Xs and see what happens.

as mah daddy used to say big bullets let lots of air IN... a 44 special is a fine finisher, and most people can shoot it well 44 mag is the choice, for a 44 jeffe
