What is a good accurate load for a weather mark v synthetic? I am using 50g vmax with 37.5g (max load)ADI 2206 powder and getting 3850 ft/sec chonoed but accuaracy is not always consistant. Some days i get 25mm groups @ 200meters and some days i get 100mm groups @ 200meters I am puzzled why this is.
Also I would like a slow target shooting load for 200m as max is not required.
I am a reloader and always reload.
So far long shot record is shag in a tree across a river 343 meters thats 375 yard for you yanks.
Looking forward to some replies

I also use H380 at >38 grains, (depending on the rifle) with 50 grain bullets.

I understand what 343 meters is, but the only shag I know is a verb.

This is merely personal opinion, but I've done a lot of experimenting with reloading for .22-250 and always seem to fall back on IMR4064. Other powders work well also, but somehow 4064 seems special. I load my Nosler 50gr. Bal Tips in front of IMR4064 35.8grs., and it groups at .280" give or take a few .000's either way (5 at 100yds.). It gives me a velocity of 3700fps. I can get a lot more velocity, but it seems to group best at this speed. Best wishes.

I couldn’t get my Remington POS to group so I sold it. Good riddens I get better groups with my 300 Rem Win Mag. I got the same dam consistant groups 2 in one place 2 in another and one by its self, but they were all within the Remington specified group size of 1.5" according to my gunsmith. I hope you have better luck.

That is a very accurate rifle. I will try some H-414 to see if it works in my gun. By the way a SHAG is big black bird the lives mainly on fresh water and eats fish and shits all over trees until they die.

Steve (ricciardelli) listed my favorite load using H380. Can't go wrong there.

I use ADI 2208 37gr, this near max in my ruger vt .22/250, shoots .5 chrono 3810fps. 50gr v max is a great bullet for vermin under the light, very destructive on foxes and the like.

cheers cc

Try Vihtavouri N140 or N150 for the 22-250, they are excellent powders. Very clean burning too.
Keep your barrell clean and stay a grain or two below max and your barrell will last a looong time Wink
My 22-250AI has lasted 1500+ shots - still shoots like a dream.

I've enjoyed 39.5 g. of Varget under a 50 g. Nosler Ballistic Tip with good success as to speed and group size.

I like 40 grs. of W760 with a 55 gr. NBT in standard 22-250. Accurate and quick.

Teancum, that sounds like a smoking load! Do you a fps form a chrono? What type of groups and what rifle/action/barrel setup are you using? Thanks Ron

Teancum ,
You may be aware that Varget is made in Australia and sold here as AR 2208 .
39.3 gns of AR 2208 gave 3990 FPS in my 23 1/2 barrelled Remington with the 50 gn V Max . Too hot and fired cases difficult to rechamber . 38.2 gns gave over 3800 FPS and reasonable pressure in my rifle . Your rifle may have a loose chamber if you can get away with that load .
Most accurate load I found was 40 gns of 760 with the 52 gn Sierra MK . This was maximum at about 3650 FPS .
Load the .22/250 hot and you'll spend half your life trimming cases .

I have become found of 30 grains of RL 7 for a 55 grain bullet and 31 grains for a 50 grain bullet.
32 grains for a 45 grain bullet and 33.5 grains for a 40 grain bullet.

I own 3 different 22/250s all with 1 in 14 twists.

I have used powders from Varget, to the H 414, the 4895s, 4064, RL 15, W 748, H 380, both 4350s, Benchmark, etc. None of them showed the consistency for accuracy with all bullet weights like RL 7 did. Honorable mention does go to IMR 3031 for being close tho.

Some powders do well with certain bullets, and not so well with other bullets in the same weights. However, RL 7 performed well with all bullets, regardless of brand. ( again so did IMR 3031). So that is my " to go to " powder for my 22/250 loads, except in ONE rifle. That one just fell in love with 25 grains of IMR 4198 with a 52 grain Speer HP or 50 grain TNT. So that is that rifle's diet, period. That ONE rifle shoots it better than RL 7. The same load in my other 22/250s is easily good enough for deer hunting or so, but not what I want for 300 yd plus accuracy for prairie dogs.

RL7 tho is my 22/250 powder or choice! IMR 3031 is second. Both have been around a long time!!

Cheers and good shooting

Sounds like u're into some long-range shooting out there. I'd take a good look at the JLK Low Drag bullets too-- once u know your barrels twist rate, that is:

52 gr. JLK LD (14 twist)-- BC= .302
60 gr. LD (12 twist)-- BC= .339
