Tell me about Hawk Bullets
Tell me about Hawk Bullets

I am waiting for my 21" barreled T/C Contender carbine barrel to be shipped back to me it was chambered in 375 Win and I just had it rechambered to 375JDJ.

I was thinking that I would be able to reach out to 300 yards with a 225gr Hornady SP when I decided to email Hornady and ask at what velocity the bullets will start to open up the response was 1800fps.

Here is my issue it turns out that all of the 375 cal bullets are either FN designed for low velocity 38-55 or 375 Win that have very low ballistic coaficients or they are designed for 375 H&H velocities and will not open up below 1800fps.

The 375JDJ will be doing with the 225gr SP 2400 - 2450fps at the muzzle at 225 yards tops and 1800fps so the BC advantage is wasted because I can't hunt with the bullet at further distances due to it not being able to expand.

I did some searching on the web and found Hawk bullets sent an email to them and had a response right away.

They told me that they can make any of their bullets with a .025" jacket that will mushroom as low as the 1500fps that I am looking for but still hold together at the 2400 -2450 top velocity that I will get with this rifle/cartridge combo and recommended the 235gr RT bullets.

If these are good bullets this sounds like the answer but I'm thinking it is to good to be true.

My goal with this rifle/cartridge/bullet combo is to hunt my spring grizzly this year and moose/elk/deer/black bear in the fall.

So any thoughts you may have on the Hawk bullets would be great.

Get the 'power' or optic that your eye likes instead of what someone else says.

When we go to the doctor they ask us what lens we like!

Do that with your optics.
