What drill size , and what tap size are needed to convert cases for use with the formerly Stoney Point, now Hornady chamber-all measuring system? Thank you, LD

Hi Butch, If you have a spare; let me buy it from you. If not, I'll order the set from McMaster Carr. If the new chemotherapy works, I will stop by and visit when I go to see my kin next year. They live in Houston, Wimberly, near Bastrop state park, San Marcos, etc.

PM answered. You are always welcome in my home. Anybody using this method to set your seating depth should fireform the case in your chamber first. Butch

I see the comment on fireforming and I agree; partially. Your headspace should be foregiving and you should have no risk using the modified case if your firearm is within spec. You should actually have a greater jump. I do agree that for more precision, the changes to headsapce should be allowed for. I use a Stoney Point headsapce gauge and measure the Chamber All case and one of the fired cases that I will be reloading to get a more precise reading.

Thank you Butch, the tap is perfect. ARWL, Be careful using Stoney Point/Hornady head space gauges, sometime you have to sacrifice a gauge and drill plus ream the hole to get it to contact close to the actual head space datum. The new Sinclair "bump" gauges work much better. There is more contact with the case shoulder. You can also measure head space without or with a bullet present. It also makes it easy to make sure you have set the shoulder back enough, but not too much. Every body has their own ideas about how much is enough and how much is too much or even not enough. Rifle functioning and group sizes are the final arbiters of "just enough" Now I have to get a 1 Morse Taper with the correct head size for an Albrecht drill holder that is big enough to hold a 9/32" drill. I will definitely be using a friend's hobby lathe with a 3 Jaw to hold the case and drill from the tail stock. If I can find a #1 Morse taper with a live center, the tapping will go very easily. I think I have a dead head 60 degree #1 Morse Taper. In that case, I will just be generous with my favorite flavor of high tech grease. If all goes well I may offer a service converting oddball cases, and of course, custom cases fired in AR members own rifles. I should know in a week or two. Thanks to you all, especially Butch!
