I've been shooting 100 grain Noslers with IMR4831 for a long time now with emphasis on accuracy and have not worried about velocity.

Now I am going to try GS Custom HV 100 grain and Lost River J36 90 grain bullets.

I am going for absolute top velocity.

Does anyone have a powder recommendation for the highest velocity?

I'd look at RL 22. I've had good results with it. You might also try IMR 7828. That one I have never tried in that case.

Have been using the 90 grain HPBT for years and still use 4831, which is a great powder for the .25-06 and most of those have a longer barrel 26-28". If you want more velocity add more powder and check your primers for pressure. Check what you are doing on a chrongraph if you have the use of one. If not come down to Florida and shot thru mine. Good Luck

I would agree with RL 22. I've hsd top velocity and accuracy with RL22 and 100 gr & 115 gr nosler BT's.Best accuracy was with Win 120 primers.Tried Fed,CCI & Rem mag primers and groups really opened up with all the mag primers.

Thanks guys,
As all my reloading books were 10 - 15 years old, I didn't know what was out there. I thought maybe some new powders may have improved velocity.

I stuck with 56.5 of IMR4831 because going up opened the groups up. Never chonographed them, but they are probably near max already.

Will give RL-22 a try.

smallfry, Don't worry, varmints and paper are the only intended targets when the distance gets beyond 450 yards.

I echo RL 22 and add RL 25. 57gr of RL 22 would yield 3400 fps with the 100 gr BT, in my Savage Tactical 25-06 Rem.
