All of the remaining venison contributed for food pantry distribution in three states is being dumped due to possible lead contamination. Studies show that well over 60 % of the study sample had lead fragments (most so small that they can only be seen on X ray). Over half million lbs were contributed by hunters in Minn. N.D. and Wisc. last season. No mention made of how much had already been consumed.

The doctor is obviously NOT a rocket scientist because he states if you swallow it you will absorb it and that is most emphatically NOT the case. Lead is used to contain concentrated sulfuric acid, the dilute sulfuric acid in your digestive juices don't do much of anything to it. Mercury which is far more reactive isn't absorbed to serious degree (you can swallow 100times the ammount that would be lethal were it in your bloodstream and you will absorb only a fraction of 1% of it, not enough for ANY clinical measurement to detect it. you can literally take mercury by the teaspoon, just don't heat it and huff the fumes... Mercury or Lead VAPOR on the other hand... OR many of their compounds (Lead acetate for instance) are absorbed very quickly, but creating these compounds without deliberate intent is difficult. That X-ray pic must be of a package of burger. BTW, a dermatologist? Someone tell him if I have a rash I'll call him otherwise he should shut up. AD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day! Those who manage to provoke themselves into other activities have only themselves to blame. *We Band of 45-70er's* 35 year Life Member of the NRA NRA Life Member since 1984

The photos are of a PILE of venison burger, many of them containing lead. If what you say is true, then why do children get lead poisoning from ingesting paint?

Hey Cossack2, There is a "healthy" discussion on the American Big Game Board about this same subject. I suspect the only "tainted" things are the bogus X-rays. Best of luck to you.

Boycott Barnes....hmmmmm...lets see...how long have they been working hard to make the perfect lead free bullet?? I guess Randy and Conni must own a time machine and must have travelled forward and seen this day. YUP...lets boycott the guys that have great bullets that can keep us all hunting no matter what the anti leaders do.

Guys, don't know if you've seen this statement we (Barnes) put out re: the CA lead ban, or any lead ban for that matter, but I think it may clear up some misconceptions here. http://www.barnesbullets.com/images/Barnes%20Position%2...non-lead%202008a.pdf BTW, I've always maintained that if ANYONE was going to realize the negative effects of "lead poisoning", it would be myself and my little sis. We literally stuffed TONS of lead cores into copper jackets from the time we were tiny kids. (What child labor laws?!?!) Unwashed hands definitely made it into our mouths, but extra appendages have yet to be found on a Brooks child or grandchild! -Jess

I may be over reacting but this continuing onslaught of outcome (grant) driven (in this case read PETA grant driven) research just pisses me off! You take some poor science, no science guy that wants to see his name on a paper and it gets picked up by some media drooler and next thing you know Donahue will be reliably reporting that the hunters of America are colluding to poison the poor people of America. If I'm wrong, I apoligize. Perhaps I'm no better than the ones I'm finding fault with.
