hey guys i went out tonight to chrono some loads that i had worked up for my 7mm stw and was flat shocked. the rifle is a custom sako with a #5, 28 inch shillen match barrel . the load was 79.5 grains of r22, win. brass, fed 215m primers, 140 grn. nosler partitions. average velocity was 3726. i had the chrono set at 15 feet, so i moved it back to 18 and the average didnt change much. can this be possible? i have seen folks get in the mid 3500s with 140s but this seemed alittle extreme. any input here would be great. thanks mark

Sounds about right, I was getting around that velocity, but with 80.0 grains of RL-22, any higher and I started having pressure problems.

With 79 gr of reloader 22 and a 140gr bullet my 26" barrels deliver 3540fps.However accuracy is not as good as with 80gr of 7828 which deliver just over 3500fps.

I think your chronograph is reading too high and suspect a "Chrony" is being used.

My STW is a is a Sendero with a stock 26" barrel. With 80grs. of RL-22 I'm getting an ave.of 3550' with my Pact chronograph and thats with the temperature running around 70-80 degrees. I think you might want to look at your chronograph.

Sounds like you have a fast barrel, the extra two inches of barrel may have some thing to do with it too. I for one never saw the need for the 7mmSTW. But if it floats your boat, then its all that matters. Now how is that load shooting at 200 yards? A 200 yard zero, will be able to hold on fur out to 350 to 400 yards. That is a long ways out. Then again maybe thats why to are putting up with the recoil, muzzel blast and well a rather heavy rifle. Interesting to say the least.

I have run 120's to 3700 in a 27" barrel.Sounds a bit fast for 140's

the only data I have on the STW is from the Hornady manual and it says your 5.4 grs over max.the nosler manual may be hotter I dont know.

I got to 3700 with the 7 RUM with 140`s but it didnt shoot well with the light bullets. It gets 3500+ with the 154 Hornady and shoots plenty good to nail a whitetail at a long ways.

Just a follow up to the original post. went out again this morning temperature was in the 40s not the 80s like before. average velocity this time was 3660 for the 140s. tells me that r22 is temp. sensitive. wonder what it will be like at -10? shot some 300 yard groups. dont laugh i do not claim to be a long range shooter. groups were in the 2 to 2.5 inch range. at 100 yards the load is just above the 2 inch mark. both of my 300 yard groups were centered around my target. yes martha it is a flat shooter! i can not wait to give a lead injection this fall!!
