Hello, a question for reloaders of .308 I usually use sierra hpbt 168 (sako trg22 twist 11 RH), and a I have a friend who is insisting to me to use the hpbt 175 instead. Have you ever prove it? Can you notice the BC difference in short distances (100/200)? Have some of you ever prove and have any opinión of the Hornady 178 HPBT or the Hornady 178 BT A MAX Plastic Tip??? (I know that the 178 HPBT has 0,505 and the Plastic Tip only has 0,495, but maybe is not so important, or maybe yes, what do you think about it? ) And my last question, any opinión or something to comment about Plastic Tip vs the Hollow Point? Please, I would be very grateful if you explain it to me [img=http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/4269/kk29kg.png] =================== Sic Vis Pacem, Para Bellum.

iam not sure what you are asking? there would be none to a very slight diffrence at 100 due to BC point of impact would be about .010" @100 with all loads at the same velocity. If your rifle has a 1:10 twist. For comparison you could load a and test the hp against the BT and see which one performes to what you want. It has been my experience that the Hornady bullets hold togeather better than the sierras the serria bullets tend to fragment over 2600f/s. Dave

I have shot both the 168SMK and the 175SMK.My rifle tends to shoot the 175SMK a little better.I am using a 1-10 twist barrel 22" long.Your 1-11 should shot both f those bullets well. The 175SMK will give you a slight edge with wind a 600 yards.Currently I use the 175SMK at 600/1000 yards and shot the 168SMK at 200/300 yards. Test them both and see what your barrel likes. I have shot some 178 Hornaday A-Max bullets. They shot well but I did not see any advantage over the 175 SMK. Regards , Mike

Madrid, You can play with the numbers all you want, but what it all comes down to is which bullet does your rifle shoot most accurately at the range you choose to shoot it? Buy yourself a box of the heavier bullets, load some, and try them. Measure the groups sizes. That's the ONLY way there is to find out. Every rifle is different, so the results of a different shooter with a different rifle even with the same bullet are meaningless to you and your rifle. I have never owned or loaded for a rifle that would shoot better with any Hornady product than with Sierra MatchKings or even GameKings. They are nowhere near as accurate. Maybe there are rifles out there that will do better with Hornadys, but I have never found one and according to my loading records, I have tested just over 200 different rifles in various calibers in the past 30+ years. hivelocity, I'm assuming he is talking about target bullets as no one in his right mind would be using match bullets on game. I hope. (I load 150 & 165gr GameKings at 2700MV and have never had a problem with them on deer, moose, or bear. I will grant you, however, that the difference between the 3/4" group with Sierras vs. the 3" group with Hornadys out of my rifle is not significant in a hunting situation within 200yds.) ..And why the sea is boiling hot And whether pigs have wings. -Lewis Carroll
