| Try at 10 feet, and 15 feet. If there is a difference 10 is too close. Slow powders may affect readings at 10 feet. Good luck! |

| 12-15 feet. Even at that distance I've blown the sky screens off an F-1 w/ a Weatherby Mag . Reloader |

Very true, I just can't bring myself to chrono my MLer loads. Those sabots will bust a screen right quick. Reloader |

| 10-12 feet for me, but on the good advice of a friend (who killed a new chrony with a wad on the first shot!) I put a 4"x6" piece of lexan in front of the lcd screen when using BP guns and wadding. With fiber wads in my 10 bore bp rifle there is a fine "dusting" all over the chrono with each shot and I cracked the glass once with lubed felt wads! Bob

| If it's a Chrony, far enough to keep the unit from reading Gun Smoke and the 15 ' cable they supplied wasn't long enough to prevent that!!! roger

| The last "chronograph" I shot over is about 12 hours away. Anywhere from 3-12 hours away makes them much less tempting to fool with. |
