I just had a bunch of reloading equipment given to me, and the rifle press is a herters reloading press. It looks old. Will I be able to get dies and stuff, and use this press to reload, or is it outdated?

As long as it's the 7/8-14 threads standard dies will work. I'm not real sure about the #3 but some, (maybe all), Herter's press used proprietary shell holders. You can still find them used and I do believe somebody out there makes adapters to use standard shell holders.

Last time I reloaded was back in the early 90's and I had a lyman crusher. I ended up moving way too many times, and went too many places, and now i'm starting over....YAY!!
I guess as long as I can get an adapter, it'll all be good then.
Thanks,

Herters #3 .... stout... heavy.... dont drop it on yur toe.

Its a good press. I have used one for long time. And yes adapters are available for the RCBS shell holders. And its a 7/8-14 thread, no worries there.

Some used them to swage bullets....

Thanks Vapodog.
I'm building my reloading room at the moment. Climate/humidity controlled, and quiet, just the way I like it.(I have 3 kids,so the spare room no longer exists.) I probably will not be pulling the lever for another month, realistically, but thanks for the info guys. I'm certain to be asking more questions, and i'll be sure not to drop the herters on the toesSmiler.

I am presently using two of herters #3 presses. You can also get shell holders here.

Do you make the shell holders for the #3?

I have a Herter's "Rifleman" which has standard die
threads and no special attachments needed for
shellholders. Wonder why the difference with the
#3??
