Just how popular is this round? I am thinking of having my long action 7mm M700 rechambered in this caliber. There aren't many discussions about this caliber on this board, that is for sure. Robert D RobertD I prefer my fish raw, my meat extra rare, and P.E.T.A on the BBQ. Any questions? I don't think any of the RUM's are "popular". That doesn't mean doodly-squat. I use a 7STW which ain't popular either. Go for it!

IMO, the 7RUM is waaaay over bore. You are better off w/ a STW or 7mmDakota. They get the most out of a 7mm bore. The RUM just uses waaay more powder for a 75-100fps advantage over the other two. RUM/145 GR. SPR GSSP Hodgdon Retumbo .284" 3.580" 99.0 3388 63,400 PSI STW/145 GR. SPR SP Hodgdon Retumbo .284" 3.565" 81.5C 3195 53,700 CUP I get 3300fps from my 7mm Dakota w/ 145gr Speer bullets over IRM7828 from a 26"bbl. Run the STW closer to 60K & you'll get 3300fps w/ about 10gr less powder. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

I think you are better off with a 300WM or 300RUM.

Thanks for all the info. The 7mm STW was another one I was thinking about as well. Since this is a 3 3/4 inch action, I don't see much point in another 7mm Rem Mag. I think I want something different this time around. RobertD I prefer my fish raw, my meat extra rare, and P.E.T.A on the BBQ. Any questions?
