Looking for another powder to try with my new 204 I got a couple of weeks back. I've tried IMR4895 and Varget and have so so results. The 4895 did a little better than Varget but I'm not really satisfied. So far I've had one three shot group measure .436 and a four shot group go .583 with 26.4 grains of IMR4895. BUT, book velocity is only 3500fps with 40gr Vmax's. I'm not looking for light speed but I didn't buy a 204 to go slower than my 22-250 and shoot about the same. I'm thinking of going with 32 grainers (Vmax) and N140. Any other ideas?

I've had pretty good results with 748 and 32 VMax's. 29.0 - 29.5 grains is what I have been loading. I've been playing with this round for a year or so now and like your's the results have been so, so at best.

The following is the result of testing my 26 inch TC Encore!

Date: April
Barrel .... 26 inch TC Factory barrel
Case ...... Hornady
Bullet ..... 32 grain Hornady V-Max
Primer ... CCI 450
Powder .. 23.0 grains IMR 4198
O.A.L. .... 2.265 inches
Temp ..... 44 deg F.
3-Shot muzzle velocity average .. 4125 fps @20 ft!
3-Shot group center to center ..... .330 inches @100 Yds

I bought 32 grain Hornady factory ammo and used the fired brass for my reloads!
NOTE: I was getting 3/8 inch groups with the factory 32 grain ammo! I was surprised and pleased!
I tried some 40 grain factory ammo and the best I could get was a 5-6 inch group and the bullets all keyholed!

I'll throw my 2 cents in for WW-748. I've been getting groups averaging around .600", running anywhere from 26-29 grs. with the Hornady V-Max 40 gr.

Here is my 2 cents also. 27.7 gr. of h-4895 with CCI small rifle primers, and Berger 40gr. hpbt varmint bullets. I've messed with other bullets, and the Berger bullet has worked very well for me.(under 1/2" groups @ 100yds) Its a pile to the lands, but shoots good. I'd like to try some magnum primers one of these days. I've heard they work well also.
