Looking for info. Rifle is a Weatherby Accumark and I have never used this bullet. I would also be interested in info with some of the newer Powder's. I have only used 7828 and RL-25 but never loaded over 250g bullets.

Since my rifle is custom my loads wont do you that much good, however you can probably extrapolate some data off of Hodgdon's website which is what I did. Just look at the data for the lighter bullets (250, 275), do the math and reduce accordingly.

Here's what I've been able to dig out of my records. This is out of a custom barrel, and custom chamber, so make sure you examine the data and reduce the load accordingly if necessary (it really shouldn't be if you're shooting a factory rifle).

Custom barreled 338/378 (29" bbl)
338/378 Wby Mag
300 Gr. Sierra Matchkings
112 gr. H-870
2858 fps.

The other good load that I had was 92 gr. of H-4831 SC and the velocity for that load was just under 2800 fps. I've shot some other loads with them more recently but I can't find the data, a couple of them were in the 3000 fps. range. If I can track down the data I'll post it.

Kingfisher;
I am shooting a 338, based on the 416 Rigby case. My favorite load for hunting using 230 grain slugs calls for H-870 as well. With the demise of that powder, I have been looking for alternatives. Retumbo looks great on paper, but I am looking for someone who has tried it in the big 338 boomers. Any data?

BB:

I have both a 30-378 and 338-378 Weatherby Accumarks and using Retumbo and H4831sc. If I remember correctly, Hodgdon has data for both the 30-378 and 338-378 using Retumbo with different bullet combinations. I used that data to work up load starting lower and working up to less than max. charges to achieve "published" velocity. I am using both as long range deer rifles and set-up with lighter weight bullets.

Retumbo works extremely well.

Brassbender, I'm sorry that it took me so long to respond. I haven't posted around here in months and I just happened to be on here for the hell of it the night that I responded.

Anyway, I'm sorry but I don't have any data for you with Retumbo. To tell you the truth, that's probably the only big magnum powder, atleast from Hodgdon anyway, that I haven't tried. I'm probably missing out but my results have been so good with RL25 as of late, that I haven't bothered with anything else. I've used H-1000, H-870, H-4831, and RL25. All have given me pretty decent results but the RL25 seems to be the best all-around. Back when I was shooting the 210 gr. Barnes XLC's I was loading 132 gr. of H-870 so I went out and bought all that I could find. Since then I've switched to the Scirrocos and RL25. So now I've got a gob of H-870 right now that I don't have a use for.
