Seating depth & pressure

Barnes states that their X bullets, even though longer than other bullets of comparable weight, do not significantly increase pressure. However, in order to fit rounds loaded with their 140gr. X bullet in my .260 Rem. magazine, the bullet will have to be seated below the junction of the neck and shoulder. Any opinions/experiences as to results in a scenario like this? Thanks, Jay Smith patriot@surfglobal.net

The only effect you get in seating bullets deeply is reduction of the powder space. Other than that you'll find little difference to those seated way out. I think everybody finds the thought distastefull but it makes little difference for accuracy. All you do is compensate in your loading for the reduced powder chamber. I've never seen any difference in performance in the few barrels I've had where that was the case. It's particularly occurring in the new short fat rounds such as the Rem short ultra and the Win WSM and both seem to be super accurate.

When you seat bullets deep, you lose powder space, and when you lose powder space you lose velocity...Barnes X bullets will definately raise pressures over conventional bullets and should be set 50 thousands off the lands according to Barnes and any way you cut it thats a confession! When you can seat a bullet way out, say one caliber deep into the case your, in effect, making it an improved version just like if you had old Ackley blow the shoulder out...I brought this to PO ackley attention one time and figued I had by the cajones, He said "thats about right" why do you ask? that ended that conversation...Jeez but he was a practical person that made no claims to fame...
