Ray has mentioned getting good results with this in 7x57 -- I am thinking of trying it in my 7mm-08.

Who has used this? Ray (and anyone else) -- what kind of velocity did you achieve and what specifics of its performance on game impressed you?

Anyone try it and not like it?

I loaded this bullet down to about 2600 fps in a 7-08 for a friends daughter who had just started hunting.Recoil was hardly noticable and it grouped just fine using H4895.The bullet performed nicely on a whitetail also.

Hey John, I "rarely" agree with ANYONE who recommends using a BoreSnake, but in this RARE exception, Mr.Ray is correct.

In fact, Speer makes both flat base Hot-Cor 130gr and nonHot-Cor Boat Tail 130gr 7mm bullets. I've used both quite extensively in the 7mm-08. They are perhaps the very best Bullets on the market for this cartridge when Deer are the intended kill and "Front End" shots are used.

If however, "Gut Shots" or shots at the "Wrong End" of a Deer are used, then a Premium Bullet like a BarnesX or a Nosler Partition will provide a better chance of recovery.

Velocity at the numerous Points of Impact were between 2100-2800fps. The Hot-Cors always provided an Exit. Occasionally the Boat Tail would be slowed by the off-side shoulder enough that the hide on that side would catch it. Just depended on the Point of Impact, angle through the deer and the distance to the Deer.

My personal preference is the Hot-Cor version.

The 130 Speer FB performs the same as the Sierra 140 gr FB.

You don't need a premium bullet for deer with a low powered 7 mm. But use one if you like, I have.

It does not make much difference.

I tried them as Hot Core suggested. Accuracy in my rifle was decent but could be improved upon. I was load testing 140gr and 150gr Ballistic Tips this morning that I bought cheap and neither of my loads were worth a hoot. Varget with the 140's and H380 with the 150's.

I brought some of the 130gr Speer flatbases that I had loaded for this past season...a little ticked off about the BT's, I started grabbing the 130's and sending them down range. Eight shots in a nice 1.200" circle

I have 70 Featherweight that has been rebarreled with a #3 contour, 22" match grade barrel. I suppose I could have stuck with my Remington but then Hot Core would have nothing to badger me about LOL.

I have 3 7-08's and they all seem to prefer flat based bullets.

Hey Oilburner, Darn shame you didn't rebarrel it with a factory "REMINGTON" tube!!! HAHAHAHA Only kidding! Actually I like Winchesters too, especially when I'm shooting against them for BBQ!!! HAHAHA

NICE, REAL NICE 8-shot group!

Hey John, Totally forgot to mention(until I spotted Oilburner's post), in my 20" 7mm-08, I've found H414 to provide excellent performance, accuracy and density from 120-150gr bullets.
