Shell Holder

Gents,

I have owned a Lyman All American Turrent Press for so many years now that I can't even remember when I bought it. My question is: Will a shell holder for the 348 Win. case work with the 45/70 case. The 45/70 slips right into the shell holder, but I want to be sure this is the right thing to do.

Thanks,
Roger QSL

Roger,
The shell holder is 17 for the 45/70 and
18 for the .348
Considering the rims are within .002 of each other, you can do it, but the body of the 348 is fatter than the 45/70 so just watch to be sure the cartridge case remains centered in the shell holder, or you will see ugly sizing die marks from the case not being centered in the shell holder.
ps....I loved my All American, and had it rebuilt at Lyman due to the adjustment bolt at the rear of the turret head was too far away, and allowed too much springing of the turret on the center post. The heavier the resizing, the closer the bolt should be without touching...but I relegated the AA to pistol, and bought a RCBS Rock Chucker for the heavy resizing. No springing there.

ShondorP,

Thanks for the help.

I contacted Lyman, and they have an adapter for their current shell holders which allows the All American to be used. Just hoping someone had tried the #18 on 45/70 and had not had problems.

I'm going to start loading for the 45/70 and see what it will do.

Will use Garretts 540's when I win the Raffle.
Don't worry, not trying to get anymore LAF non-sense going here. Had my fill from the Raffle.HI

Again, thanks.
Happy New Year

Roger,
If you find any old tru line junior presses from Lyman, they use the same shell holder and primer ram that the AA does. I wore one of the TLJR's out.
