I have to say that squirrel with a .22 is one of my favorite hunting scenarios. I scout while I hunt, move at a relaxed pace, and get in some good shooting practice. Plus this all occurs at my favorite time of the year (and temperatures). It is like the hunting season warm up, and I like to eat the little rascals too.

20vt? I googled it and found a car. Roadkill is your favorite form of hunting small game? lol Does that leave the meat pretty tender?

My favorite is to hunt cottontails through out our much to long winters. Also a good way to stay in shape thru the winter. Mostly use 22LR.

It has to be squirrels in river bottom hickory stands. I hunted rabbits with a beagle for a number of years but they smell so bad when cleaning that I gave that up. "Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult."

It would have to be a toss up between squirrel and rabbit. The vote will have to go to rabbit. The meat is more plentiful and harvesting them with with a 12 ga. or 10/22 is incredibly satisfying. M

My vote goes to rabbit! we hunt them all winter as the weather gets colder the rabbits sit tighter and makes the hunt much more exciting. and fruitful.

Columbia Ground Squirrels rock - right to 450 yards, best so far. Here's looking atcha! Ridge-line - to dangerous to shoot, but makes a good picture. Daryl S.

Let me add that my wife is a big hunter. Deer, pigs, elk, black bear, and a bunch of African stuff, including cape buff... She will shoot rabbits and squirrels for me to eat... But she usually will not shoot the little cute stuff. One time I shot a grey fox here in Texas. She said, "Why did you shoot that, you cannot eat it????" So I said, "Yes you can." I skinned it, I have it mounted, and I pulled out the back straps and cooked them on the fire that night. My brother and I ate them, they were very good... Since then she has shot one, and a bobcat as well. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

I used to hunt the small Striped Squirrels in India with a an air rifle & it was great fun. They are very smart and fast. They cling to the branches and run around them. With a lot of practice I would occasionally get a running shot. Head shooting with peep sights at 10 to 15 yards was great fun for a teenager and even as a an adult. http://www.burrard-lucas.com/g...d_palm_squirrel.html They are about twice the size of the tiny chipmunks I saw in British Columbia 2 years ago. Swamp Rabbit I'm just adding that because no one else has and it's my favorite. Recommended tools for where I hunt in the Mid-South - hip waders, a very short barrel 20 ga, a .22 revolver for finishing, a walking stick to probe the bottoms before stepping, a game vest with lots of room and a companion or two. Dogs are OK but optional on swampers. Three of 'um is about all you want to carry. My "secret method" - after the river bottoms flood, find a high spot or island where the rabbits have congregated. With luck you might not even need the gun. But don't tell anybody... My congrats too on those foxes.

Wallaby in South Island New Zealand http://s243.photobucket.com/al...rent=Wallabyshot.flv This is good sport. I hunt with a friend - we hunt the bushy sloping gullies with a dog & my deer rifle. I took a running shot at full speed at 179 meters & nailed one first shot. They hop in a bouncing motion, I timed the hop perfectly. The above video clip was of some easier shots. The longest shot was 332 meter - quite challenging for a 7mm08 with a 2-8X Leupold. I used the Boon & Crockett reticule & it was very effective. "When the wind stops....start rowing. You said! I have always felt better about deer season after getting a good no-stress warm up hunting Cat Squirrels in the "pin oaks" (actually water & willow oaks) bottoms of east Texas. I enjoy it so much that I've made up custom rigs on Contender platforms in 22WMR and 17HMR. In fact, one of the biggest drawbacks to having moved to SW Texas is how far I have to drive to get to decent squirrel hunting.
