Came in to work this evening, just in time for one of the boys to say he'd seen a lawn leopard sneakin' round one of the buildings near to where we were standing. Waited about a minute got out the .22 from the pickup the little b&%t$%d as it rounded the corner right in front of me quickly cleaned up, then strolled into the office to start my shift. How many of us can say that it's part of the job requirements to splat crat between other duties....

Nah. Here at the power company one of the VP's sent out a memo a while back that anyone caught with a firearm on company property would be sent home to secure the weapon before reporting back to work. I think that was mostly just to keep the lawyers at bay with a, "yes, we do in fact have a firearms policy", sort of thing. It *IS* still South Alabama after all, and to date, I don't think upper management has opted to make a sweep of any personal vehicles in the parking lot. It's probably an ignorance is bliss sort of thing - and employees are cool with it. So far nobody's come driving up with an M2 set-up in the bed of their truck to see if HR will really ask him to go put it up. ====================================== Cleachdadh mi fo m' féileadh dé tha an m' osan.

I found a copy of the email. I saved it in my "too good to delete" box: Here's the exact memo - from one of our Vice Presidents.
Given the nature of our business - it would probably be safe to assume that where necessary, we do maintain certain specific emergency response personnel whose job duties include insuring uninterrupted, reliable power production. ====================================== Cleachdadh mi fo m' féileadh dé tha an m' osan.

"...sent home to secure it..."???? It's officially a terminating offense here, not that it ever happened or stopped anyone. It's well known that a couple of us guys head out to a nearby range at lunch several time a month. Only once did I ever get a comment. Gee, I wonder where the guns are kept all day??? Damn yankee transplant from Chicago...no one listened to him anyway!
Any jobs available??? Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.

Ben. l suppose that being out in the sticks a bit and the fact that we can put it down to dept' control work l manage to get the clearance to carry. l just have to put the toys away when term starts, and there are then too many bodies on the ground. CDH. We'd like a few more on the team by funding won't allow it at the moment, sorry 'bout that. The reason l carry the pill popper is due to the Game n Wildlife dept just put down 800 birds and the moggies are nockin' em off wholesale. l normally run a bunch of live traps and remove the little offendings before doing the dead, but this one was too good to pass up. l also deal with the other vermin on campus for the grounds team as the rabbits rip up the lawns and the head gardener goes nuts if l don't keep on top of them. Regards. Dave

Used to shoot clays after work, iron in the trunk of course. After 9-11 even a crat coulda knocked us off, no heat allowed. Seemed kinda silly to me, most of us were Nam Vets, or even a few GW I types. Who better to back up Barney Fife? Dan Pres., TYHC http://www.DumbAssed.Crats If yuro'e corseseyd and dsyelixc can you siltl raed oaky?

Well you know Dan, we just can't trust our vets or even current military reserves to be upstanding citizens in the community and all ... A lot of that crap really frustrates me. You've got 18 and 19 year old "kids" out piloting nuclear submarines with their fingers on the triggers of millions of megatons of nuclear missles, but they can't buy a Browning Buckmark .22LR pistol until they're 21. Same thing with our vets ... they can die fighting to defend our rights and defending the rights of others all over the world in the name of democracy and human freedom, but back in the US they get distrust, and even spite or revile in a lot of areas. ====================================== Cleachdadh mi fo m' féileadh dé tha an m' osan.

Dan, Ben. Sorry for not getting back to you, been busy for a few days so didn't get time to log on. Sounds like you've got it bad at the moment, we all hear how the GWB will deal with what ever problem comes along but won't let decent people handle their own lives as they see fit. l suppose l should feel lucky, being a little speck l get to slip through the net from time to time. All the best. Dave. ....
