Wis. Man Wants to Legalize Cat Hunting Monday, March 07, 2005 MADISON, Wis. — Hunter Mark Smith welcomes wild birds on to his property, but if he sees a cat, he thinks the "invasive" animal should be considered fair game.

The 48-year-old firefighter from La Crosse has proposed that hunters in Wisconsin make free-roaming domestic cats an "unprotected species" that could be shot at will by anyone with a small-game license.

His proposal will be placed before hunters on April 11 at the Wisconsin Conservation Congress (search) spring hearings in each of the state's 72 counties.

"I get up in the morning and if there's new snow, there's cat tracks under my bird feeder ... I look at them as an invasive species, plain and simple," Smith said.

Smith's proposal has horrified cat lovers, but is seen by others as a way to stop cats from killing wild birds. "

Well that's part of a great idea but lets add the wild birds to the ticket and why not free roaming dog's to? Because I already shoot all the above regardless of season and I already spend too much money on licences.

I think legalizing cat shooting/hunting it is a step in the right direction.

Turtle, my take is that there would be a lot less hesitancy in whacking a crat among the general population, thus a lot fewer crats. That is a good thing. thumb Few legends live up to their mark in reality, so let's overlook the minor points and give credit where due. And thing of the recipes that might spring forth from this! Why just from the State of Looosianna alone it boggles the mind! Cajun Crat Cajones, Creole Crat, Buouillibasted Crat, Crat and Crawdaddies! Yum Yum! roflmao

Clay, I stand behind my embattled leaders, however clumsy they may appear. Remember, it wasn't them that elected them, it was the voters of Florida. Eeker A more direct path in my eye though is not to make it legal, but rather simply remove those existing restrictions against crat mayhem. I say no death is too spectacular for a crat. Cool
