A week or so ago I went pond fishing, even though it is deer season. It was just too hot to hunt in the afternoons and I knew of a couple of ponds I could go to that held some big bluegills and maybe a few bass. I rigged my old manual fly reel so I could cast those little 1" minnows and a tiny cork all lashed together with 4 pound line and away I went. I caught two 14 inch bass and 7 very nice bluegills on the minnows. Now I have one of those plastic minnow buckets shaped like a blunt bullet and it has a spring loaded to closed door in it. Really probably made for hanging over the side of a boat or off a pier. When I got home I left it sitting outside of my shed still with minnows in it in the rush to clean the fish. Of course I put the fish heads and guts under a shovel full of dirt in the dead garden, and sprinkled scales around pretty good cleaning. A day or so later I saw the bucket tipped over and didn't think much of it. Last night I heard a terrible squalling and rolling about sound by my shed and checked it this morning. A medium gray, white footed CAT was in my minnow bucket and not happy. So I took her fishing. "Make yourselves sheep and the wolves will eat you" G. ned ludd | ||

That sounds like one of Heinlein's traps to me. Always admired his writting and his mind. Well, I will remember the dreaded "Spring loaded lid trick" in the future, especially when I'm a stranger in a strange land. Sometimes I wash my hands, but never my mind.
