Hello Mr.Critter_Killer: May I suggest that you first work on mastering your Marlin and your sighting system as a step in the difficult and demanding cat control pursuit. Maybe get your green belt first before going up against Yoda, so to speak. Remember what happened to Roy , and that he was a professional cat whacker among other things. It is not the tool, it is the craftsmanship that is important. Some here say cats. Others call them crats presumably because of their queer behavior, devious ways, and damage to society, likening them to liberal democrats. Good luck in the future.

i have a 4X scope for my .22 but it wont hold a zero. i shoot great groups with it most r touchin each other. nad i can get it to hit exacly where i want it to with the scope one day. 2 days later when i shoot at a cat at the same distance it hits 7 inches under it!?!?!? i just dont get it im using federal ammo which it loves to shoot. and shoots well i might add. i been shootin that rifle scince i was 4 years old. few months ago my dad gave it to me, so i decided a good scope was in the future of that rifle. but it just wont hold a zero. any tips for zeroing that rifle would help. im zeroing it at 50yrds with 36 grain ammo. i shoot 3 shot groups adjust the scope wait a few minutes then shoot again. but 2 days later its a half foot off and i didnt even bump it!!!

Critter_Killer,

Your irons stay zeroed? I would check the action screws. Is the action held tightly in the stock? Is there any play? Remove and re-install the action screws and make sure tension is even and not so tight as to "flex" the action in the stock. A rimfire action is not super rigid anyway.

Next, check the scope mounts. Are they tight? Does the scope woble at all? Will the scope move with the action held tight? If so, remount and use locktite.

If these two are not the problem, then the scope may have to be junked. The average rimfire scope is not expensive so borrow or buy a new scope and re-zero. See if that fixes it. Are you cleaning the gun between sessions? If so, stop and see if that causes it.

I always assumed that crat was a hybrid word that came from a blending of cat and rat...

I imagine that the CB cap out of a 22" or longer barrel would be pretty quiet. I've been hoarding a couple bricks of them for "urban varmint control"..
