I almost forgot, Cabelas and Cheaper than Dirt carry them. Get the Super Colibri, no the plain Colibri. 500fps vs 350pfs, no difference in noise. I've shot both.

Sounds like your pool is doing a better job than you! Wink Sorry, couldn't resist!

You don't need a real powerful pellet gun for Chipmunks. This is the perfect excuse for you to buy a nice match-grade pellet rifle. I think Anschutz makes nice "chipmunk" pellet guns.

I love chipmunks. One of my fondest memories is a year they were as numerous as prairie dogs. I used to stand on a bluff and shoot until I got tired.

Actually, I got two in the last week -- still trying to catch up with the pool! Big Grin I bought a box of CCI CB Caps and they're quiet and accurate enough for government work! Go to the handgun hunting forum and I put up a hunting report on the one I shot a couple of days ago...... It's a lethal enough combination and none of the neighbors have complained -- yet! Big Grin The chipmunks have been stearing clearing since I wacked a couple of them.......

I do plan on buying a pellet gun in the near future........

Got another one this morning. I was working on my first cup of coffee when I saw one running around in the back yard. So, I grabbed my revolver, eased the back door open, steadied the gun against the door frame, and wacked him. He was flopping around, so I did my best to put another in him. I then walked out and stuck yet another in him as he was still breathing. Either they're very tough, or CB caps out of a revolver are very weak! Big Grin My latest "trophy":

Oh, hey, got another one this morning. Similar scenario -- drinking my first cup of coffee when I notice this chipmunk raising Cain in the backyard. I eased the door open and silenced him forever with one shot from my little S&W .22.......Bang-flop....... I'm getting good at this! Big Grin

I realize i suggested CB caps but man I gotta tell you you are just not getting much for entrance/exit wounds. You must have to do a lot of blood trailing.

My M75 has a 24 inch barrel and they look like they've been shot when I get 'em with it. I think these must be pool chipmunks that you blow dried for trophy photos or they died of fright from seeing the size of the pistol.

I have taken to whacking them with my .223 and light Blue Dot loads under Varmint Grenades. That makes pieces. Kinda like a close range in miniature version of the Barnes videos.

LOL, MIles! I don't think I am getting better than 350 fps out of these big 29 grain bullets!! Here's another photo after I flipped the last chipmunk over, you can see the entry wound as he was quartering towards me. Got a complete pass-through. It's scary trailing a wounded Chipmunk....... shocker

I am going up to the cabin tonight. I have to work out some loads for a .243 and settle an '06 and try some 130 TSXs in a 300 WM. I also have 4-5 different 12 ga slugs to try out. The good part is that there's lots of chipmunks on the little range we have there. I don't think i should have much trailing of cripples to do but I will try to get a picture of a proper entrance/exit wound. Of course these "northern chimunks" are bigger bodied than those puny down south guys so we tend to use a little more gun on 'em.

And yet another one bites the dust, but this one was the toughest so far! I shot him at 15 yards again from the back door -- I just opened it a bit and let a bullet fly. It was a solid strike and he went straight down, rolled over on his back and twitched. Dead chipmunk, right? Wrong! By the time I got my shoes on and outside he was gone!! Just some blood where he had been!

So, I start combing the yard in search of e fatally hit chipmunk and can't even find a blood trail. Nothing. All of a sudden I hear a chirp which sounded like a chipmunk. I go out to the driveway and scared something out of the bushes, so I head back into the yard and see an obviously wounded chipmunk explode out of the bushes, dragging its hindquarters. Then he heads into the ivy, under the fence and into the driveway. I run, grab a rake and manage to head him off. He scurries into the yard again and I get the chance to shoot him again, so I do. He rolls over and I am sure it's over. I grab my camera, turn back around and he's gone again!! What the hell?! I spot him heading under the barbeque, so I roll it out and put one more in him, right behind the ear.......it was finally over. Good grief! Big Grin

I went back to the range at the cabin. Had some 243 ammo that wouldn't shoot good enough at 100 so I burned them off on chipmunks. Got four missed two. I was shooting Varmint Grenades at 2250. I got good blood on entrance and exit wounds, but not much vaporization. I think them little buggers are tougher than they look.

Just wackin' 'em and stackin' 'em! Got one this morning at about ten yards, a gut shot, and he crawled right up to me -- probably intent on chewing my big toe off, at which point a flat-point .22 caliber bullet was dispatched to the back of its head. Big Grin

Whitworth,

I used traps with great success on mice and squirrels. For bait peanut butter is the best.

Rat traps work great on squirrels and one even got a mouse!

Get the 'power' or optic that your eye likes instead of what someone else says.

When we go to the doctor they ask us what lens we like!

Do that with your optics.

I have no doubt that traps would be really affective, but I am just having too much fun this way! Plus, it's valuable practice for deer season (I am a handgun hunter afterall) as these twitchy little rodents are sometimes hard to hit!
