Nice! Living out in the West, I've never hunted them.

I have a friend in Louisiana that says he prefers to hunt them with a .22 pistol. "it's a lot of fun and you almost never have to clean anything". I can believe that, as it is tough enough with a rifle.

Brings back memories. I grew up hunting squirrels. Mostly with my Winchester Model 55 until I bought a used High Standard Sentinel R-101 9 shot revolver. I was only 17 then, but the mechanic I bought it from didn’t care. Didn’t have many walnut trees, but plenty of oaks, hickory, and pine. Shoot Safe, Mike NRA Endowment Member

My grandson does. His other grandpa took him out but insisted if he killed them he needed to clean them + eat them. I won't argue that. I have a neighbor who has a pecan orchard in the valley who loves to have folks kill the squirrels. Never mistake motion for action.

I used to kill and eat a lot of squirrels. This year I have been noticing a lot of them around might have to break out my old boy hood 22 and have at it. A crisp fall morning in the oaks is just the ticket.

Used to shoot and eat a lot of squirrels----it was a good warm up for deer hunting between the sitting and/or still hunting as well as the shootin' practice. My hunting buddy and myself would clean them and freeze them and eat them for supper he next time we were up to the hunting cabin. We would also sell the tails to the company (Sheldins Inc.) that made Mepps fishing lures for 5 cents each----paid for some of our ammo. Hip

Muzza: They'd find plenty to eat there. We have quite a few in the yards here in town. Had a late neighbor that baited them with peanuts and popped one now and then for eats. Glad my wife never found out as she was feeding them everyday. Long time ago I shot lot's of 'em too. More pine squirrels than others but, some in the river bottoms. Fox and grays mostly.
