I posted over in the bird hunter's section for feathers and thought I'd also post here for tails.

As a secondary hobby, I like to tie flies for fly fishing. I was wondering if any of you would be willing to save me some tails. I tie with Squirrel, fox and coyote tail hair. These get died in all kinds of colors so having quite a few would be really nice.

I don't have a lot of money but would love to tie you some flies, pay for shipping and the like. I know that most of these just get thrown away. I can give them a new life and help you more fully use what you shoot.

If I get too many, I have a lot of friends who tie also who would be very happy to receive some. I also teach free classes at times and can pass some along to younger tiers.

If you guys fly fish, I can tie up some flies for you to use this summer if you'll remember to cut off and dry some squirrel tails etc.. for me when hunting season rolls around. I really like to tie flies so just let me know. I used to hunt squirrels a lot as a kid growing up in Kansas but they aren't as plentiful here in this area of Oregon.

I'm sure the guys here shoot hundreds of squirrels every year. I'd like to dye the tails several different colors so it would be nice to have a whole bunch of them. It's a lot of work to set up to do dying for just a few.

if ground squirrel tails will work( or rabbit fur), let me know. Jerry

Both can be used. Rabbit hair is used for dubbing for the bodies of flies or if the skin is tanned, it is often used in strips.

I may run into a bunny pelt now and then, we only get digger squirrels here...

Now that some of the seasons are opening up, once again, I'll ask you all to consider sending me some some kritter tails for fly tying with.
