Nearly a year ago, I posted a discussion about how I missed a double on a secluded road, because the owners of said filthy vermin were sitting on their porch, and were the intended recipients of a couple of pizzas I was attempting to deliver to them. Then, a few days later I scored said double, when on another delivery run, I just happened to pass by that way. Well... this morning I was jogging to the local National Guard Armory, where I work out, when I noticed another "good" cat laying in the middle of the road, eyes a-popping out of it's skull. I think the next few times I drive by that way I'll make the effort to drive down that road really fast. Who knows, lightning actually DOES strike the same place(s) twice.

Yes indeed 120mm, it do. Especially down here in the Windy State, between winds if you get my drift. On another tangent, have you heard that the infamous Lightning has been reintroduced? Indeed, a faithful replica of the old Colt pumpgun in on the market and quite nicely done I might add, .45LC, .44 Special, and the .38/40 plus one or two others IIRC. Damn the torpedos, that will be a fine backup piece for pizza delivery! BTW, any paychecks on the horizon? I actually had a chance to handle one of those Taurus Lightenings at the Raleigh gun show last weekend. .45 colt/26"(?)/round barrel. Ought to make a fine dangerous cat rifle, especially if attacked by a herd. "Make yourselves sheep and the wolves will eat you" G. ned ludd

Ned, the ones I refer to are not made by Taurus. U.S. Firearms makes the "Lightning Magazine Rifle", 26" or 20" barrel, prices begin at $1480.00 MSRP. http://www.usfirearms.com/cat/deluxelightning.asp Look and weep... Okay, Dan. You have just left an image burned in my brain of an USFA Lightning in .45LC w/exhibition grade stock and English engraving. And there is NO WAY I could ever afford that!

Don't worry 120mm, you're in good company! Hope they're in business long enough for me to save up some nickles and dimes. They sure are pretty! Sorry about branding you though... Ned, I'm undecided about that. There are few things more elegant to my eye than an Penn. style small caliber flinter, and not too many things more sporting. As I recall from the old Alamo movie, they make a fair club when it gets down to it, but what a shame to do that. Almost better to take the bayonett and pass it on, hope whatever yaahoo picks it up will take care of it and all, that with an eye to his Great-great-great-great-great grandson's first quarter tuition at University of Juarez. I think in the final analysis it boils down to circumstance. Next year I hope to whack something with a flinter, but in the here and now of it, I'd go with the Lightning if transported back to the Alamo. Or the dumpster behind Golden Chopstix II. I'm pretty damn quick with a SS breachloader, but 4-5 shots a minute from a smoke pole would flat wear me to a frazzle. And besides, it's real damn hard to resist using the butt as a club when ya got 3 crats gnawing on your ankles. Coming into our neighborhood last week and saw a black & white sitting on the opposite side of the road. Went down a few driveways, turned around, and headed back to do the deed. Unfortunately, this crat must have heard some stories about the dirty Toyota 4WD, because he didn't hang around to kiss the tire. An old pilot, not a bold pilot, aka "the pig murdering fool"

A .36 caliber longrifle would be nice.

[I've been shooting .32 and .36 for quite a while. The .32 with round ball easily duplicates .32-20 wcf original load energy. Too much gun for small game, even for cats. At 15 grains 3f, my squirrel load, the roundball is essentially flat shooting to 40 yards. 30 grains gets you flat to 60 yards. Great for cats & squill but you need to put the ball in the head because of meat damage. The .36 is accurate but way too much gun for cats & chucks because the sights limit me to about 60 or so yards on such small targets and even a light load has lots of power for that size of game. I have been trying for years to get a deer with either again using squill loads while still hunting. The last deer I killed with a .32 roundball was a heart shot at 60 yards. The ball penetrated through the cavity and heart to the skin on the far side. Probably at 1300 fps. I only have long barreled caplocks in those calibers now.] "Make yourselves sheep and the wolves will eat you" G. ned ludd

Ned, I've been pondering the Tracks book, think I'll put in an order in mid Jan....my biggest problem has been which honey to bring home. I'm going with the .36, keep it tastefully simple and see how it goes...save the inlay and carving for the next if all goes well. Howzitgo? Click-hiss-boom!? Real fast? I hope. I don't...can't imagine it being too much gun for crats...maybe too much fun? I can't legally shoot deer with a .36 down here, but you never know when one of them might throw itself in front of a bobcrat, trying to save it and such. Life is full of surprises!
