My father came to Montana for a little visit. We were whacking gophers with a .17 Remington and V-Maxs.On the way back to the ranch house we spot a black field lion sneaking along the railroad right of way.Truck stops, window is rolled down,.17 out the window, bang, splat!!!.Nice shot Pa.Watched him swell(field lion) momentarily on impact.Like father, like son.Favorite quote of the trip"I hate them Sum Bitches".Pa whacked just shy of four 5 gallon buckets of gophers and one field lion.I may need a new pipe on the .17 soon.Got to go sharpen our knives.

Wolfman, Pa sounds like a man after my own heart! Good on him! Listen, unlike many I have no real favorites among cartridges, which probably makes me a complete ballistic whore...but perhaps you can just rebore/chamber your Remmy to .223AI rather than rebarrel. Probably cost less and it'll fluff pussy a whole lot better than the .17. More range too, and that's a ballistic fact. Just a thought. Keep up the good work!

Are those gophers as "good" as cats for planting under the tomatoes?

It's a thought Wolfer. Ya know there is already a .30 Wolf, so if you keep thinking like this you could have a whole pack on them soon enough. The .30 Wolf is a premier long range round if you're not familiar...

Read an article some time back by a fellow that woke up one day and sold all his varmint rifles but the .223AI and a .22-250 AI. Said the .223 on steroids was the functional equivalent of the standard .22-250 an so forth and so on. Seems to be a popular 'cat these days.

Dan When the 6.8 Remmy came out I got nervous and bought 5000 rounds of .223 brass and a thousand rounds of .308 brass.I haven't got my reloading benchs setup at the new place yet.Been plumbing at the new place.Bought some more land just to the south of the place.Tommorrow, early I'm taking a break from the house and going to whack gophers on the new place.Nobody has shot there for the last 8 years,it's overrun.Heavy barreled .223 Savage with my old 10X Leupold and lots of 50 grain V-Maxs.Ma won't come along and video the "aerials".I told her I want to make a video."Gopher Autorotation,Montana Style".I haven't convinced her yet.Oh well,I got go sharpen a few blades.
