Ya know, it's really hard to judge length in that scenario, but it the guy is average height I think I'm looking at at least 9' or better. Definately a big'un. Wouldn't have to put the juice in you, just a jab to the chin would put you on the sod.

I saw several live eastern diamondbacks in south Georgia and north Florida that later were measured in the six+ to nearly 7&1/2 foot range. The heads were as big as my fist or a little over. I have always estimated the one in the picture as 9 1/2 feet long, after seeing the others and looking at the musculature and boot size of the fellow holding it. Even some forestry and game warden types were amazed, and by golly, they see some nasty ones out in the bush in that area. I once shot a gray squirrel in a live oak grove and a while later when I went to get it, a 3 footer was eating it. I was living in Georgia then and I went on a rattler hunt in my back yard in town after the neighbor jumped one mowing the grass. Me and the Chief of police could not find it. The local paper always ran stories usually with a snake/hoe picture about townfolk killing them in the side yard. Months later, after losing that snake, I had a tree service trim deadwood out of a couple of live oaks in the backyard, and when they cut a big dead limb off the tree 30 feet up, a 3 footer jumped out of a hole, and in the panic got away. Worse than cats!

Rest easy Mr Derf. A hoe is an implement to dispatch yard rattlers with and subsequently measure their length relatively. It had to be a large (4+) one to inspire much talk at the hotel bar. Although I frequently hear it, I don't understand h/h language, except as it helps me differentiate things.
