A lot of you are ex-military. I think it would
be great to have a medal to bestow on cat killers who show bravery above and beyond the call of duty. The design of the medal and ribbon could come first followed by the criteria for receiving the medal and then the wording of the commendation letter. Any Ideas?

Good thinking OEH. I believe medals are best kept simple. Crosshairs on a cat silhouette would be a good start. Maybe a Latin expert can come up with a 3-word message to add at the bottom.

How about a ring, signifying a scope's field of vision, with a Duplex reticle inside and little kitty sitting on the bottom of the ring with curly tail. Position and size so the cat's head is "in the crosshairs." For a special touch, we could drill out where the crosshairs meet.

Before we get into medals and who gets them, a simple black & white jpeg could be developed and freely distributed for use on sites like this.

How about this for a design on the "Crat Eradication Medal of Honor"

To the right side of the medal is a crat standing tied to a post in front of a wall. (blind fold is optional) From the left side of the medal is the forend/muzzel of a rifle. Inscribed on the medal's reverse side is: Awarded In Defence of Tweety Birds And The Dedicated Destruction of Evil Crats At Every Opertunity By What Ever Means

Recall if you will that some medals have additional decorations. Forgive me but the only ones that come to my 'never a GI at my Dad's insistence (he did his tour)' mind are the oak leavs and clusters that the Germans used for their air ace awards...

May I suggest the addition of a 40 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip for every 40 confirmed kills...maybe hanging from a miniature truck tire with a crat paw sticking out from under it.

Or better yet make the medal an engraved .375 Accubond (more surface area) with notches for the kill count.

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.

Maybe we should honor the Olympics and have a
special decathalon medal with several prescribed events required to earn it. Or perhaps a special Biathalon medal for shots made in the snow. It would have a field of white with a spash of red. A new Nordic event!

For the more primitive we could have a summer game event similiar to the javelin toss with a spear as the weapon required. And we can't forget archery, its a natural. Its medal could be in the shape of a Corvette with an impaled kitty on top. What do you think?

Oh I forgot the kids! Those earning medals get
one that looks like a roadkill version of Garfield hanging from an orange ribbon. We could give them an alternate medal to wear to school that would have a bird like the little yellow one from the Charlie Brown cartoon strip.
They could tell the teacher that it is a wildlife conservation award. Today's teachers
are too liberal to figure out the truth.
