This one with a little more thump! if you know what I mean. I recently ordered an 03/38 Turkish Mauser in 8x57mm that I will build as a genral purpose all'round cat thumper. As I am cheap, I'm going to do the most inexpensive, yet good workmanship job I can, probably going to stay with the original barrel if it's any good, maybe get one of Brownell's el cheapo .308 barrels if not. ($100 for a star gauged barrel!!!).

I have a question for Digital Dan. What do you think of paper-patched cast lead bullets out of the 8mm mauser?

I'm interested in what everyone has to say about this.

Dead soft lead and paper patch means no leading and major expansion, even at low velocity. Find a mould with a large meplat if you can. Email, call or PM when you're ready to load, I'll break down the process for you. Wink

For a good time try the Craniorectal shot! Cool Parts is parts.

Good for you 120mm. A matching bayonet will let you practice the "pitchfork" toss with the crats.

Imagine if you will, TM in the shop late one Friday night, his mind feverishly attacking the problem of how to shoot a crat thru a .323 bore. The perspiration, the knitted brow. Then the light comes on! beer He remembers the fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics 101, and the fact that most mammals are in fact 98% water. Smiler Then the SAAMI spec for peak chamber pressure on the belted magnumb cases! Cool "With enough pressure I can extrude an Abrams Tank thru a .323 Bore!", he says... and the rest is history.

BTW, they're having a sale at Wal-Mart on Kitty Silly String, 4 for a buck! Plus tax. The kids just love it! The smell is...just devine! Wink

Dan, I just found out by pure inquisitiveness that the weight in aviation battery caps is pure, dead soft lead. And I have a couple thousand of them in a bucket, waiting to be disposed of.

This is going to be fun.

120, remember, anything associated with a battery is going to be contaminated with acids. Best to neutralize that stuff pretty quick. You might want to sell that lead and pick up some roofers lead, roof caps, also pure lead and no acids to deal with. derf

I bought a crapload of molds not too long ago, one of them is .510 bore 600 grain Postell... I keep thinking about building a .50-140 Sharps on a SS Ruger #1 Heavy barrel just for "emergencies" thumb

I think it would be a seriously rude awakening for any nasty ole' Felinus Domesticus who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time - IE anywhere within a thousand yards of me with a rifle. Big Grin
