O.K., deer season is over, finally took the camouflage out of the back seat of the truck, shook the stuff out of the back pack. I went out this morning, and there were tracks on my pickup, tis time to crat hunt. I played with the new home built e-caller during season. Nearly called in a coyote one morning late, but somebody's loose running bluetic scared him off before I got a shot, (if that dog had not had a collar on...), and, I took three crows on one stand, five on another. Any way, learned a little about volume and set up, maybe a coyote in the next few weeks, but, the thing is magic on crats! The distressed kitten sound I downloaded from the net, cleaned up with Goldwave is like a kitty magnet for Toms. Swapped the 7mm Rem. Mag barrel on the Encore for the .223, for the next few mornings, going to see what I can scare up before work.

you bring to mind the eternal question, "If you can see cammo is it working?" bewildered

Aside from all that, best of luck to ya! thumb Your dedication, as indicated based on your download/cleanup activities, is to be admired. Wink Of late I've found that cleaning fish is also a powerful attractant...plus one is armed during the pursuit of boneless filets.

WORRIEDMAN-- I have had some sucess with "jay in distress" and "woodpecker in distress" but my go to sound is a songbird set that is supposed to be for owls. On several occasions while trying to call coon and foxes using a coon kitten sound I had crats come in.
My bigger problem is a lack of quarry on the home front. When I first moved in it was a target rich environment. The aquistion of one terrier and a little time has since ended that. I got on the crow killing kick but quickly bored of that , they won't even venture into my side of the county anymore. Would it be against the code to transplant a population of crats to the property ? Is there a handbook or bible on what I can and can't do to stay eligible for acceptance into the ERADACRAT FRATENITY? DIgital Dan (aka Yoda), do you know where I can find a copy? Anyone?

Hi Old Elk Hunter
find sounds on the internet Type in "kitten" and you will have a plethora to chose among (take the first one listed in stereo and you will be happy though!)

Goldwave (free to try, $50 to buy)

Yes. thumbdown The code is found in a killer's heart, if you have to ask the answer is "No." Kill 'em where you find them. thumb Your local wildlife has no doubt prospered since your "target rich" digs entered a state of poverty(good work BTW Cool ).

The question no doubt arises regarding the many barriers to success(tree humpin', bunny huggin', blue haired hand wringin' liberals) in culling distant crat populations...'tis part of the burden we bear. Frowner Fear not, it is why God gave us Fred Bear, and CB shorts...spring traps and CATapults. Employ these things as appropriate, use discretion tempered with creativity. Wink Have fun, recruit brothers of a kindred spirit! cheers

I had to advertise on this very same forum about two years ago when I was sufferin' from a lack of cats. Could not even prepare my famous mew goo gai pan for company. Got some breeding stock from Yankeetown, Iowa, W.V. and some other places. Ended up making a LOT of money in the restaurant provisioning business, but too much success and stress about crats yowing day and night made me give it up. I just stick to the "All Natural Cat Lure" business now.

One can download Goldwave off the net, pretty nifty little program. For the kitten, mice, and rat sounds, I just googled them up, lots of sites have variations of them, but they have to be cleaned up to be of much use. If you can not locate the sounds, send me your e-mail address, and I will forward mine to you.

For all things caller, try this site, these guys have it going on! http://www.predatormastersforums.com
