I have been reading over on the bird hunting forum. here a while back they were talking about the pro's and con's to planted birds and got me to thinking. If I am taking cats to the farm and turning them loose is that like hunting planted cats????? is that sporting?????how long do they have to avoid the yotes before I can call them wild pasture panthers????? I'm just trying to be an ethical hunter.

Married men live longer than single men do,

but married men are a lot more willing to die.

Yes thats planting cats, they will move more than a planted pheasant .
So it will be slitly more of a challange .So it's sort of sporting ,but still fun.
IMO a planted cat just like a pheasant must winter over to be considered wild.

I have never had one winter over .
Most died of " High Speed Lead Poisning"

Ahem! Any cat outside is wild. Some, with collars have escaped from captivity; they are wild too. That puss out in the bush even for an hour is up to no good and looking to kill something whether or not it feeds on the kill. Its not in lederhosen taking a hike, or hanging out at the farm waiting for the new quail in the spring. It hunts all the time. If you hunt you also know that some wounded pheasants survive. Most don't. Coyotes, Bobcats and feral cats get them. I am not one of those who transfers unwanted cats to the countryside, where small game is already under unlimited assault by the Federal protection(hawks, red wolves, and pumas.) Its hard enough to control farm bred ferals and discarded cats now. There is a job to be done!

I like to think of my self as being an ethical hunter! Where Cats, Foxes& Dingos /Dogs come into the equation there are no ethics!!! Shoot, Bait,Trap or just plain run over! All the same to me! All in a days work! (As the saying goes Lost ya Cat? Check My Tyres

Planting fee-lines?

Yep, I've planted them. I have tried feet-up, feet down, feet pointed north, south, east and west. Even tried by the light of the full-moon. I still can't get them to grow. Confused Maybe something wrong with my Almanac.

The garden sure looks green though. Big Grin

Tell the truth now, DD. Your shovel is getting rusty because you adopted a couple of feral gators.

N.S., shame

Gators are not domestic animals. Big Al and Little Bob can not then be feral. They belong right where they are, it was their home first.

Now, Dan on the other hand...... sofa

Yes it's true, I bark at the moon now and then...from wherever I might dwell at the moment.

I really don't miss the shovel work mind you, it's sort of a S.F.W. thing now, Shoot, Feed, and Watch. roflmao Chomp chomp! BTW, a Sharpshin Hawk nailed a squill in my yard this AM, just as the redfish were pushing up the creek. Nice visual, land, sea and air! Wink

I wonder what signal Paul Revere would have used if the Redcoats had planes back then? bewildered

On the subject of comedy, a few nights back there was a sort of block party at a neighbors house, two of the guests being the local game warden(young), and girlfriend(dish). Somebody ask the lass what she wanted to do with her life and she opined that she wished to be President. I told her I was President, "President of the Yankeetown Hysterical Club.", with my most sincere deadpan expression. She paused to consider that for a moment, not exactly sure of what she'd heard. God Almighty she is a pretty thing! She finally decided that she'd heard "Historical" and said "That's nice.", giving me a look of tolerance such as you would any brain dead old fart. Mrs. Dan and a few others that are more familiar laughed so hard they almost fell out of their chairs. Well, next time I shall console her with an offer of the Under Secretary of State position. Wink sofa

Back in the dark ages of my youth .I did not con form to what my Parents wanted around the family property (Just home & out the Army & trying to deal with a few issues dan & oeh will under stand ) It was decided that a stint on the Dog Proof Fence was in order until I learnt to behave again in Gentil company! Some months went by & I was allowed leave .On my return to civilization my Parents threw a party for other well to dos I attended under the Priviso that I behaved! God knows I tried & I was going so well until a nice lady asked me what I did for a living? I thought about it for a moment & answered that I was involved in the hair &skin industry!Well it aint my fault that in passing conversation she mentioned to a mate it was nice to see that.I'd become A HAIRDRESSER/BEAUTITION! my mate quietly explained to her that I was a dingo culler & maintained section of the dog fence & it was a nick name given to Dog "stifeners " when asked their trade as we took the scalps off the dogs as proof we were doing our job.Her reaction was less than christian & I was sent back out to the fence to consider social graces Big Grin

H K I asked my self the same question at the time ! But in reflection I came to realise that I did not have any of the skills needed to fit in to ordered society then ! I certanly do'nt have em now ! If anything I have finely Honed my skills of being a social outcast (mind you other Pro shooters seem to have the same problem ! Almost like a Musonic order) I love it ! Never have to apoligize to my wife for my Lack of social ediquete ! Big Grin
