Can anyone answer this? Hopefully we can talk Sonofagun into this topic that will stimulate his mind. When at the range I always take along a .22, .17, or fireball for any kids to shoot that are hanging around while their dad tries to hit an 8X10 target. Those "new" pennies are worthless now as they shatter when you hit them.
Question: I tape the coins to the target and then place a small orange targdot sticker over the coin. When the coins are shot they either flip out about 5-6 foot in front of the target in the 4:00 o'clock position or 5-6 feet in front of the target in the 7-8:00 o'clock position, or they punch straight backwards and punch through the rear of the target and are found 8-10 directly behind the target. This happens at both 50 and 100 yards. All will show a seemingly dead on direct hit. This mainly happens with the .22 rimfires. The .17 and fireball just drill a clean hole and the coin is left hanging on the target in place.

It happens because kids are 'sposed to shoot .22 RFs and not play with adult toys. The pennies bounce and fly when hit with Ol' Reliable so the kids can see results, then they have an "Easter Egg hunt" after the fact. That's my theory anyway.

Somebody will come along soon enough and say it's all about energy, inertia. terminal performance as a function of cross sectional area, the Taylor KO Index, and the slug moment of arc radian tan^2. Don't believe it. shame

Thanks for takin' care of the kids! thumb

That's a scientrific mystery that us shootin' scientists are still working on, when we are not conducting practical experimentations.

What is wrong with you people? you could be using that change to buy more ammo!

What you should be doing is teaching them to shoot at crats - there's a real action target!

I like you already. How many dimes? Just an over powder wad and dimes? Sounds wonderfully wicked. I'm thinking this could be my new "hall cleaner" load vs. the OO
What a lovely blood trail a dime 1/2" diam. would make. I see commercial value here.

Hello one-holer.
Welcome to the insanity. SmilerIf you like me ,yer gonna be inthralled by the 'Heavy-Weights'.Ain't a better bunch on this or any other forum.
The dimes.Ya got to put em inna cup.I stick Puff-Lon or Kapok in the shell to fill it up.Use a cup of sorts or the inside of your barrel will look like a bad hail storm on a Yugo.
The weight of said load is up to the sad MOFO that would want to try this in the first place.
Ya didn't hear it from me , but a 3 1/2" magnum will shove about an 1 1/2" stack of dimes. The humming and howling is what Viagra is made from. Cool
Don't claim to be a rocket scientist ,but this cuts brush better than fletchettes(sp).I guess they fly on edge where they are shoving each other out of the way. Some things don't need explainin'.
Ya wanna make the neighborhood think 'The Second Coming'is in the yard, use the joke flash paper the magic dudes flick in their fingers for cushion.A sprinkle of 4-F black powder adds to the excitement.Woo-Hoo.

Speaking of black powder. When I was a kid of about 7 or 8 I got a "boy doll" Major Matt Mason for Christmas. That afternoon I poured a good palm full of the black stuff into a Pringles can, crammed in a few paper towels, tossed ol' Matt in feet first and closed the lid. Put in a piece of green fuse in the bottom and lauched him smoldering over the house into the back yard. Dolls are for pussies.
