Put studded tires on the truck today. Not for traction on ice and snow, but for the neighborhood cats. Here kitty, kitty ....

Pancake vs. waffle crats
Slicks vs. studs

Oh the choices some have to endure!

Studs on tires be illegal here abouts. Frowner Cops don't always notice the odd quiet shot, but those things kinda stick out down here. Kinda like artic wear.

This falls into the discussion area wherein there is a bit of disagreement on whether acceleration, decelleration, or tire burning is the best cat/tire mix. I would vote acceleration, my usual, even more so with OEH'S studded tires, reminds me of an old fashioned tub grinder for some reason. What say ye?

I find it best to first accelerate to position you vehicle for proper cat tire alignment, then declerate to make sure maximum tire to cat ratio is acheived. The after all is said and done dispose of said feline in the ditch with a proper amount of tire burning on top of the subject at hand.

I dare say that using a crat to break stud traction on ice will result in the most distant deposit possible if you are inclined to goose it a little at the right moment. That is of course mere speculation on my part. Last ice I saw was back in '71 as I flew over Alaska westward. It was considerably warmer where I landed.
