My Duiker mount was originally sent on just a shipping plate. I wanted to do the pedestal myself. This kind of stuff takes me forever. But I managed to do something I'm very happy with. I wanted to build a short pyramid style one at first but those probably would have been too tall for my purpose. So I decided on this squatter style.

Here's a picture of him on the shipping plate and finally on the short pedestal I made.

It's nice to have projects like that and it turned out nice. Where will you put it?

The room I have my mounts in has angled ceilings on two sides. The short pedestal will allow me to put the mount on top of one of the bookshelves against one of the short walls and not hit the angled ceiling.

Neat, that stuff is fun.

I set up the table that displays my elephant tusks and someday I'd like to do a pedestal also. My skills revolve more around metal so that may be a theme with the pedestal.

Thanks for sharing,
Kyler

The duiker looks really good. I really like putting the little guys on pedestals. I have all mine (duiker, steenbok and klipspringer) done like that except I put them on a rock. They sit either on a table or on my bookselve in the trophy room.

Paul Eberhardt of Front Range Taxidermy in Bloomfield Colorado did the mount. I am extremely pleased with his work. I will most certainly use him again.

I am in full agreement on the pedestal concept for the little guys. If you're not doing a full body mount, I believe it's THE way to go. I would definitely consider doing a steenbok or springbok in this manner. I just gotta get past the "cat with horns" concept on the steenbok with my wife.

Kyler, a metal display pedestal for elephant tusks sounds extremely cool. I hope you do it. A black iron tusk display pedestal would be awesome! Now I am gonna wait for pictures!

BigGuy,
I realize I maybe didn't word my post very carefully. Someday I'd like to make a metal (or partially metal) pedestal for a head mount (zebra, kudu, etc.). I don't have any little stuff but it looks really good the way you did it.

For the elephant tusks I modified a table:

We're pretty happy with it so although pedestal mounts look good for tusks I'll most likely leave these in the table.

Kyler

Understood Kyler,

That tusk table looks fabulous by the way. Certainly a keeper!

That table took some careful measurements and fitting to get right.
