Ok, so its not as extravagant as some, and i hope my hunting career is nowhere near over, so the walls are a little bare yet.

The trophies from my first African Safari will be up in a year or so.

Still more work to do, but right now it is comfortable enough to entertain and relax in. This room is in my shop and not part of the house. Kind of a good getaway from the house.

Very nice!! Love the old gable roof end! Was it built to look that way and hang or is it from an old building? Must have been a challenge to keep it together and transport, eh?

Oh, nice critters too BTW!

Scott

Lol, when I was just a youngster my dad got a really good deal on some barn boards, all we had to do is tear down the barn. We pulled up to the old farmstead in his work truck and proceeded to tear down the worst of the two barns. It took all day but when we left the barn was nothing more than a pile of rubble. We we took our haul home and unloaded it for some future projects. Later that night dad called the guy that gave us the barn to thank him, only to find out we tore down the wrong barn! Eeker

Actually, the guy was a lot more understanding than you'd think. Neither barn was what I would consider worth fixing up, but that's what the owner had planned for it. We made his life a lot easier, I guess. I can't look at barn boards in a house without thinking of that story, and it cracks me up every time.

My apologies for hijacking the thread.

The room is very nice, it looks like a fun socail gathering place for food and drinks. So many trophy rooms only serve one purpose and that's to show the trophies. Your's takes a nice approach. My humble trophy room is a workshop but it also serves more than one purpose.

That is a cool room. Heck of a caribou trophy, what's the story behind it?

Well, it was a hunt in the NWT about 11 years ago with my brothers and a few friends. That was the first of 2 Caribou i took on the trip. Both with rifle. I was mostly bowhunting, but my hunting partner drew first dibbs on stalking. He was unsuccessful and by the time it was my turn to shoot, it was getting late in the hunt, so i just went for the rifle. He just made the minimum B &C score, but fell short of the all-time by about 2 inches. I believe he has 34 countable points.

It was a great hunt, and certianly not repeatable now days due to the decline of the herds up there. We saw thousands of Caribou.

My brothers returned to that area 3 years ago, most of them didn't even see a caribou, and only 1 hunter had shot one on that trip.

Thanks! The owner of the buildings let me take whatever i wanted from them. He had 2 old graineries and i used every piece i could from them. When i was done stripping them i cut the rest up with the chainsaw and pushed it into a burn pit for the landowner. After cutting them up, my friend that was helping me said that the gable end would look nice on the wall....I agreed and we loaded it into the trailer.

It took a little enginuity, but i got it up there in one piece. I was glad i went to the work of saving it, i think it turned out kinda neat.

Barn wood is still not too hard to get your hands on around here and most guys are willing to give them to you as long as you tear down what you dont take so that it can be burned..

Hah, yep no worries on the owl. I have the permit for it tucked in the back of the wall mount. It is not too difficult to get the required permits here in Canada. It is just simply a visit with the animal to local fish and wildlife. They scan it and if all looks good, issue you a possession permit.
